Sarah Devilbiss and Todd Uhlman, junior nursing students at the University of North Florida, were elected to serve in positions for the Florida Student Nurses Association during the organization’s annual convention.

Approximately 1,000 nursing students from across the state attended this year’s convention, held in Daytona Beach. FSNA aids in the preparation of nursing students for the assumption of professional responsibilities as well as aids in the development of the whole person and their responsibility for the healthcare of people in all walks of life.

“This is quite an accomplishment to have two students, who embody the students we strive to prepare, on the executive board of the Florida Student Nurses Association,” said Li Loriz, UNF’s School of Nursing Director. “We’re certain they will represent UNF well.”

A native of Baltimore, Md., Devilbiss was elected to the position of region 2 director and was also appointed to chair the community health committee. She’s actively involved in leadership at UNF as secretary for her School of Nursing class, a student representative/liaison for the School of Nursing Evaluation Committee and is the former vice president of her freshman class. An active member of UNF’s Student Nurses Association, Devilbiss hopes to pursue critical care and community health nursing upon graduation.

Uhlman, a native of Havelock, N.C., was elected as FSNA’s 1st vice president and was also appointed to chair the by-laws committee. He has served in various leadership roles on the UNF campus, including president of the pre-licensure nursing class, School of Nursing Flagship Committee student representative, College of Health Building Committee student representative and member of UNF’s Student Nurses Association.

A Naval Air crewman, Uhlman has received numerous honors and awards during his military career such as the Global War on Terrorism Service Award, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is also vice president of the North Florida Umpires Association as well as a member of the River City Umpires Association.
