The head coach of the University of North Florida men’s tennis team, Igal Buberman, announced today the signing of Daniel Sotomarino.“I am very excited to have Daniel join our team,” said Buberman. “He is an excellent competitor, who has solid ground strokes and brings a great work ethic. We look forward to working with him and taking his game to the next level.”“My biggest personal sports thrill is the competition, going up against stronger opponents and having intense hard fought matches and winning them,” said Sotomarino.Through his reign at Markham College located in Lima Peru, Sotomarino was a National Peruvian Tennis Champion, winning in the 12, 14, 16 and 18 year old age divisions. Since 2000, he has been in the national Peruvian top five rankings in his respective categories.One of Sotomarino’s most impressive feats came when he was the national champion of the 18 year old category, when he was only 14 years old. In 2008, he was awarded the All Category Champion honor, gaining six ATP points.The 6-foot-2-inch, 190 pound in coming freshman started playing tennis competitively in 2001. He competed in the Inka Bowl from 2003-06 and has played in other tournaments in South America.A native from Lima, Peru, he graduated Markham College in 2007, which is a primary and secondary school. Sotomarino was born on Aug. 28, 1989 and will be majoring in business.
