Volleyball Inks Two More for 2009

University of North Florida head volleyball coach Kevin Campbell announced today the addition of Paige Pridgeon and Ashley Johnson.

Pridgeon, a 5-7 outside hitter from Tallahassee, Fla., was named the Big Bend Player of the Year during her senior year at Lincoln High School. She earned All-Big Bend honors all four years. She was named All-State Second Team during her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. Pridgeon averaged over 300 kills per season and ranked in the top-three in the Big Bend region in kills, digs and aces. Her club team, the Tallahassee Juniors, were ranked No. 1 in the state national qualifier.

“Paige is very quick on the court,” Campbell said. “She has a fast swing and has great game sense. To that she adds a great personality. I can see Paige making an immediate impact on our team.”

Johnson is a 5-11 outside hitter also from Tallahassee and was a teammate of Pridgeon at Lincoln High School. She was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Year at Lincoln during her senior year. Johnson earned All-Big Bend First Team honors and was named to the All-State honorable mention team. She tallied over 400 kills, 37 blocks, 82 digs and 32 aces during her senior campaign. Johnson also succeeded off the court, graduating with honors.

“Ashley is a very athletic player and is very dedicated to the game,” said Campbell. “She has the tools and is on track to become a great volleyball player.”

Pridgeon and Johnson join Allison Shirley and Nicole Baran who were announced previously.
