University of North Florida basketball coach Matthew Driscoll has landed his first signee at UNF, announcing today the signing of David Jeune from Okeechobee High School.

Jeune (pronounced June) is a 6-7 forward who could have an immediate impact for the Ospreys next season both as a scorer and on the boards. Jeune was a first team all-district selection and a first team All-Treasure Coast selection as a senior, averaging 21.5 points per game and 14.7 rebounds a contest his final season.

"We are extremely proud and excited to begin this new era and get a young man like David Jeune to play for our program," Driscoll said. "He is a very good basketball player, as his stats indicate, but he is also a person of character and integrity and possesses the traits that we are looking for as we build our program here at UNF."

Jeune, who played for coach John Enrico, notched 27 double-doubles as a senior as well as one triple- double in helping lead Enrico's squad to a berth in district 14-4A semifinals. Jeune owns the all-time records at Okeechobee for points in a career (1,328) and rebounds in a career (1,381). The past three seasons, he broke the school's single-season rebounding mark, setting the standard with 391 as a sophomore before pulling down 407 boards as a junior and 426 as a senior.

"David is a tenacious rebounder and somebody who has a lot of athleticism and potential that has not yet been reached," Enrico said. "Off the court, you will not find a better kid. We have a family-type atmosphere here, and David was like a son to me."

Enrico described Jeune as a ''gym rat" who has the ability to score inside as well as step out beyond the 3- point arc and hit the long-range shot. Jeune shot 48 percent beyond the arc for his career, hitting 50 long- range shots in 105 attempts. He also owns the Okeechobee record for blocks in a career (229) as well as free throws in a season (149) and a career (316). He is the only person in school history with more than 1,300 career points and 1,300 career rebounds.

Jeune played AAU basketball for coach Conrad Foss and the Florida Elite. He will enroll at UNF in the fall and will begin his career with the Ospreys in November.
