Tickets are going fast to see the most anticipated matchup in UNF history when SEC powerhouse Florida visits on Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. to face the University of North Florida baseball team at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys lead the all-time series 3-2.
Tickets are available for advance purchase at the UNF Arena Box Office Monday-Friday from 8-5 p.m. and cost $8. UNF students get in for free with their student ID.
There are many festivities planned for the special occasion, including the first pitch thrown out by Jacksonville Jaguar defensive back Rashean Mathis and linebacker Daryl Smith. The U.S. Navy air squadron in Mayport commanded by Lieutenant Matt Piro will conduct a flyover with an Orion P3.
Prior to the game, the UNF Student Government Association will hold a tailgate extravaganza at 6 p.m. on the grass field behind the UNF Softball Complex. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, tea and lemonade for the first 450 UNF students.
The last time the Gators played UNF in Jacksonville was in 2006 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. It was the first meeting between the teams, and the Ospreys won the game, 6-5, with the help of UNF pitcher John Frawley. Frawley entered the game in the top of the sixth and silenced the bats of the Gators, allowing only two hits in three innings of work.
