Women and Girls Initiative Luncheon Features World Renowned Breast Cancer Researcher

The University of North Florida’s Women and Girls Health Initiative will feature Dr. Edith A. Perez, a world renowned breast cancer researcher, at a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at the Jacksonville Marriott Hotel at Southpoint, 4670 Salisbury Road, Jacksonville. Tickets are $35 per person or $500 for sponsored tables of 10. Tickets are available by calling (904) 620-2810.
Perez is a breast cancer researcher, speaker and patient advocate. She chaired a groundbreaking study, which will change the standard of care for all breast cancer patients, saving thousands of lives. Perez is the co-director of the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic. Her work has been published in numerous medical journals. Recently, she and her work have been featured in the New York Times, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News and World Report, CNN, “ABC World News Tonight” and the “NBC Nightly News.” She also serves on the board of the Donna Hicken Foundation.
The program will also include Donna Hicken, a First Coast News anchor and Jacksonville native. She is a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School and has a bachelor’s degree in communication from Florida State University. She is involved in a number of community organizations and created The Donna Hicken Foundation as the result of being a two-time cancer survivor. Her foundation provides the necessary funds to care for local women living with breast cancer. Hicken will sign her book, “The Good Fight,” following the luncheon.
UNF’s Women and Girls Health Initiative aims to motivate, educate and engage individuals in the strengthening and delivery of excellence in women and girls’ health care. This event is sponsored by Mayo Clinic and the Women and Girls Health Initiative.
