UNF Plans Hispanic Heritage Events


 

The University of North Florida is planning a National Hispanic Heritage event which will include a panel discussion and a showcase of dance and food.

 

The event will be Oct. 9 at the Andrew Robinson Student Life Center, Rooms 1603-06, 1700 beginning at 1 p.m.


The panel of local experts will discuss whether there is a resurgence of leftist ideologies in Latin America. Panel members include Dr. Ana Yolanda Contreras, UNF Department of Language and Literature who will discuss Guatemala; Dr. Martin Camps, UNF Department of Language and Literature, who will discuss Mexico; Dr. David Schwam-Baird, UNF Department of Political Science and Public Administration, who will discuss Brazil and Eduardo Naval, owner and president of Naval and Associates Inc., who will discuss Cuba. The panel moderator will be Dr. Jose Angeles, UNF Department of English and Foreign Languages.

 

At 4 p.m. the Hispanic Showcase of Dance and Food will begin with a variety of entertainment and refreshments.

 

Both events, which are free and open to the public, are sponsored by the UNF Hispanic Council.


There will also be a performance by the Ballet Nacional de Cuba at 7:30 p.m. at the UNF Fine Arts Center. Tickets may be purchased at the UNF Fine Arts Center Ticket Office by calling 620-2878
