Each week we prepare a “TIP SHEET” for Jacksonville-area media highlighting events and activities of interest to the community. Help with the FCAT
With Florida students preparing for the FCAT, Dr. Mary O. Borg and Dr. Roy Singleton Jr. can comment on standardized testing. Borg has evaluated the efficacy of using FCAT scores to evaluate school effectiveness. Singleton has studied the value and instruction of reading, and standardized tests. Former Congressmen Visiting UNF
A bipartisan team of former congressmen are visiting UNF to raise civic awareness among university students. Barber Conable, a Republican from New York, and Ken Hechler, a Democrat from West Virginia, will participate in The Stennis Center for Public Service’s Congress to Campus visit Feb. 10-12.
A public lecture on The Challenge of Global Inequality will be Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Robinson Student Life Center, Building 14, Room 1700, on the UNF campus. During their visit, the former congressmen also will interact with students in class, and meet with students and faculty. Time is available for media interviews. The College to Campus visit is sponsored at UNF by the Political Science and Public Administration Department and the Undergraduate Academic Enrichment Program.
UNF Homecoming Continues
UNF’s Homecoming celebrations continue this week. Events include the Powder Puff Tournament, Alumni Emeriti Luncheon; Alumni Recognition Dinner; Faculty vs. Student Basketball Game, Pep Rally and Bonfire; “Have a Heart” National Donor Day; Homecoming comedians Mitch Hedberg and Harland Williams; Alumni Golf Outing; and the Homecoming Game with the Ospreys taking on USC Spartanburg.
The Homecoming Parade starts Saturday, Feb. 15, at 11:30 a.m. and arrives at the Arena at noon.

Board of Trustees Conference Call
The UNF Board of Trustees will conduct a conference call Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2:30 p.m. Agenda items include a report on a request by the United Faculty of Florida for recognition as the faculty bargaining agent and updates on legislative issues and the presidential search process.
Individuals interested in listening to the conference call may do so on the web by going to www.unf.edu/trustees and clicking on the appropriate icon. A copy of the agenda may be obtained by visiting www.unf.edu/trustees.
