Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award 2010-2011
Cliff Ross is an Associate Professor of the Department of Biology. He received his Ph.D. in Marine Science in 2005 from the University of California at Santa Barbara. From 2005-2007 he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce Florida. Cliff joined the department of biology in the Fall of 2007. He has taught an array of courses including Marine Biology, Oceanography, Marine Botany, General Biology I and Current Applications in Biology for non-majors. Cliff’s research program aims to utilize biochemical, cellular and ecological approaches to better understand stress responses in marine and freshwater organisms. His students and himself are particularly interested in evaluating the impacts of environmental stressors on cellular processes with the ultimate goal of understanding how this influences ecosystem functionality. The work he and his students have accomplished has been funded by the Florida Institute of Oceanography, the St. Johns Water River Management District, the Smithsonian and various internal funding sources at UNF.
