Accounting and Finance
Diane Tanner is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Accounting and Finance at UNF, and has been a faculty member at UNF since 1984, teaching primarily financial and managerial accounting. This award is her second University Outstanding Service Award, having received the first in 2000. She currently serves as a chair or active member of close to 20 committee and volunteer positions.
She has served the University in several ways over the past several years through participation in University governance in Faculty Association, College, departmental, and other committees. She has served as the Acting Secretary of Faculty Association and vice-chair of the Faculty Association Executive Committee since 2007. She is in her fourth term of sitting on the Faculty Affairs Committee, and her third term of sitting on the Academic Standards Committee. She chaired both the Academic Standards and the Campus Technology Committees for a term, and sat as chair, vice-chair, and acting chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee for a total of 6 years. She also served on the Faculty Enhancement Committee for one term.
She has been heavily involved in faculty-related technology on campus and sat on the University Technology Committee for three terms and was a founding member of the GOT (Gang of Technology) committee. She served on the Classroom Performance System (clickers) task force, the Classroom Technology Action Team, the Email Forwarding Action Team, and the iTunes Project Action Team. She was recently elected to the Distance Learning Committee.
She is currently co-chair of the Task Force for Undergraduate Advising. She has served five terms on the Parking Advisory Council, actively limiting increases to parking permit fees. She has been a graduation marshal attending all three annual commencement ceremonies since for 16 years. She served on the QEP Development Team, the most recent SACS Institutional Effectiveness Committee, the ACE Tutoring Advisory Committee, the Undergraduate Studies Council, and chaired the Bookstore Advisory Council for two terms. She has served as treasurer and initiation coordinator in the past for the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi annual initiations, more recently serving as a ceremony volunteer. She has participated in UNF’s ‘Other Club’ functions as well.
During her three terms of serving as a board member of the UNF Alumni Association, she co-chaired the Activities and Services Committee, and sat on the Governance Committee, the Student Focus Committee, the Football 101 Committee, and the Alumni Golf Tournament Committees. She has served on several Alumni Association homecoming committees and as a judge for homecoming floats and the lip sync contests.
At the department level, she has served on the Coggin Scholarship Selection Committee for several years. She also served on the College’s Technology Committee, Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee. She has chaired the Accounting Scholarship Selection Committee for 14 years and served as the Department’s Accounting Scholarship Manager for 11 years. She serves on the Accounting Curriculum Committee and has been actively involved in assessment for accreditation purposes. She is the Accounting Principles Coordinator and an adjunct mentor to a number of adjuncts who teach the lower-level accounting courses. She also serves as the Financial and Managerial Accounting Excel Quizzes Coordinator.
Her community service includes a 20-year appointment to the Selective Service Appeals Board. She served the River City Swim League, a summer swim league for 1,800 kids, in a number of roles, including President for two years, vice-president for one year, and Clerk of Course Chair for 4 years. She continues as the League’s Score Room Manager even though her children have aged out of the program. She also served on the Scholarship Committees for the National Association of Railway Business Women, and for the River City Swim League.
At the professional level, she is a member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, serving in the past as chair of the Career Day Committee for 6 years. She is a steering committee member of the Florida Association of Accounting Educators and served as president for one year, hosting the State conference at UNF.
