In support of the University’s effort to maintain and foster safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and the University community at large, all new hires will be required to undergo a pre-employment background check. These screenings provide the University with critical information to make the best and most informed hiring decisions. All offers of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Checks will be conducted by SingleSource Services, the approved background screening vendor for the University. Based on the subject’s name(s) and date of birth, the check is made using all the names revealed in the Residence Trace as a National Criminal Record Check, including records from State Departments of Correction, State Record Repositories, County Courts, and sexual predator/violent offenders’ databases from all 50 states, DC, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Inquiries are made in the counties in which the subject has resided for the past seven years. Any positions having fiduciary or driving responsibilities will also have checks of credit history and/or driving records included.
Some departments requiring level two or higher background checks will continue to conduct their own screenings, for example, the University Police Department, Department of Childhood Education, etc.
Funding for new hire background checks will be centralized through the Department of Human Resources.
