Tuition Scholarship for Spouse, Dependent or Domestic Partner

The tuition scholarship program allows the spouse, dependent or domestic partner of University of North Florida faculty, administrative and support staff employees who have been employed for at least six months, and who are in good standing, the opportunity to take classes at UNF, tuition free. Please refer to the FAQ below for more information on the requirements and benefits of the program.

FAQs

Who is eligible to participate in the program?

The tuition scholarship program is open to the spouse, dependent or domestic partner of full-time faculty, administrative and support staff employees who have been employed for at least six months within a budgeted position, and who are currently in good standing. A dependent child is defined as being claimed on the employee's most recent IRS tax return or as the child of the employee, 25 years of age or younger at the time of registration and claimed as a dependent on the employee's most recent tax return. The program is not open to part-time (0.5 FTE) budgeted employees, student employees, adjuncts or other personnel service (OPS) employees.
What does the program cover?

The tuition scholarship program provides tuition-free classes, up to three credit hours per semester at UNF, for the spouse, eligible dependent or certified domestic partner of full-time faculty, administrative or support staff employees.
What does the program not cover?

The program does not cover the tuition costs for thesis, dissertation, internships, directed independent study, non-credit courses, or sponsored credit program offerings.

Additionally, the program will not cover additional fees including, but not limited to the Wall Street Journal fee, Week of Welcome fee, Osprey ID Card fee, Orientation fee or the state-mandated Repeat Surcharge fee.
Do I have to apply to the University?

In order to participate in the program, the spouse, dependent or domestic partner must apply for admission to UNF as either a degree or non-degree seeking student. Regular application deadlines and admission criteria apply. Once admitted to the University, the spouse, dependent or domestic partner must register for classes either online or in person at One Stop Student Services. How are tuition payments posted?

The tuition scholarship program will only waive the tuition costs for those eligible classes specifically listed on the tuition scholarship program form. The tuition costs are paid up-front by the University, but will not appear on the spouse, dependent or domestic partner's account until after the payment deadline.
What if I withdraw from a class the program has paid for?

In the event that the spouse, dependent or domestic partner withdraws from a class after the add/drop period, the spouse, dependent or domestic partner will not be eligible to use the tuition scholarship program benefit for the next semester. The spouse, dependent or domestic partner does not have to repay the University for the waived tuition costs.
Are there any grade requirements for classes covered by the program?

The spouse, dependent or domestic partner is responsible for remaining in good academic standing for any courses covered by the tuition scholarship program:

For undergraduate courses - the spouse, dependent or domestic partner must earn a 'C' or better

For graduate courses - the spouse, dependent or domestic partner must earn a 'B' or better

Failure to meet the minimum grade requirements will prevent the spouse, dependent or domestic partner from using the tuition scholarship program benefit for the next semester. The spouse, dependent or domestic partner does not have to repay the University for the waived tuition costs.
Can I give my eligible hours to the University employee?

In no case will a spouse, dependent or domestic partner be allowed to assign credit hours to the University employee.
