A Message from the Director

Greetings Colleagues,

UNF is a smaller Florida public university that attracts students with strong academic profiles. Our students want personal interactions with their professors and easier access to unique learning opportunities. To that end, we offer students hands-on transformational learning opportunities with faculty members who often do research with undergraduates. UNF students study abroad at twice the national average and visit Italy to study art, Ghana to nurse local people or Greece to study ancient peoples.

And while our students like to be close to the beach and to the abundant career opportunities that Northeast Florida has to offer, living on a campus in the city of Jacksonville has profound impact on their education. Opportunities for internships and co-ops at Fortune 500 abound. Student teaching positions are abundant. Our nursing and other healthcare students find ample rotations in clinicals throughout our area hospitals, clinics and specialty medical facilities. Music students play with the Jacksonville Symphony and study with professional musicians in addition to their world-renowned faculty.

When they are not in class, students can enjoy our miles of hiking, biking and running trails through more than 500 acres of nature preserves. They also have full use of our state-of-the art Student Wellness Complex and award-winning Student Union. They can choose from our more than 200 student clubs and organizations and a robust Greek life. And Men's Basketball Coach Matt Driscoll would love it if they would come out and cheer his and the other 18 NCAA sports teams on in one of the many athletics facilities or fields on campus.

UNF offers all of this and even more – I encourage you to schedule a tour or high school visit for your students so they can see this themselves. If you have not been on campus lately, you have not been on campus.

Please do not hesitate to contact your regional representative or me personally with questions or concerns. I can be reached best via e-mail at karen.lucas@unf.edu or via phone at (904) 620-1610.

With continued respect,
