International Students

Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or are not permanent residents of the U.S. are considered for admissions on the same basis as citizens or permanent residents. However, because of the different processing requirements and time/distance issues (especially for mail), applications and other materials for admission should be submitted as early as possible. Be aware that most U.S. students apply for university entrance typically a year in advance of their anticipated starting dates.

International applicants must meet the following requirements in order to begin studies in either undergraduate or graduate programs as a degree-seeking F-1 or J-1 student at the University of North Florida. Click an item below to learn more.

Admissions Requirements

Application for Admission Fee. International Students must submit a US $30.00 non-refundable fee (check or money order in U.S. dollars only) payable to the University of North Florida. Do not send cash. Applications will not be processed without this fee.
Completed Application for Admissions. Alternatively, a link for the online application is provided after this section. Be sure to first read all of the information on requirements. Even though applying online is possible, certain items will have to be mailed in separately. Two additional points: (a) be sure to include a valid mailing address where a student will be able to receive mail at all times up to the date that he/she departs for Florida. (b) It is strongly recommended that a student have an e-mail address, and check it regularly, as it is the main method of communication with a student prior to arrival.
Official Academic Credentials. Original transcripts from all institutions must be submitted from the foreign institutions directly to the Office of Admissions at UNF. To determine academic eligibility for admissions, academic credentials must be (a) translated into English and (b) evaluated course-by-course by an evaluation service. Applicants have the responsibility to contact the evaluation agency directly and to provide UNF with an original evaluation of all academic credentials. A list of acceptable evaluators can be found at the web page of NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services).
English Language Proficiency. All applicants, except those from countries where English is the only official language, are required to furnish satisfactory evidence that the applicant's competency in English is adequate. Official Test Scores. Students must submit test scores based on the level they will be entering: undergraduate or graduate.

Undergraduate

Test scores from one of these standard college entrance exams, ACT or SAT, is required of any student who applied for admission to UNF as a freshman or sophomore (with less than 60 college level credit hours). The required test score is determined by the high school grade point average.

SAT - Minimum scores required for all students on the SAT is 460 Critical Reading and 460 Math.

ACT - Minimum scores required for all students on the ACT is 18 on the English subsection, 19 on the Reading subsection, and 19 on the Math subsection.

Graduate

Graduate students will need to submit scores for the GMAT or the GRE depending upon the graduate program they are applying to for admission.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test).Students must score at least 20 on the verbal component and 22 on the quantitative component of the GMAT. A minimum score of 500 is required of all applicants to the Master of Accountancy and the Master of Business Administration.

GRE (Graduate Record Exam). Scores must be submitted for any graduate program other than Business or Health Administration. Minimum scores requirements vary per department with scores over 1000 (combined verbal and quantitative components) being the most competitive.

Immigration Requirements
U.S. Federal regulations require that international students show reliable documentation that readily available funds are guaranteed at least for the first year of study and that adequate funding will be available from the same or equally dependable sources for subsequent years. The following documents are required before UNF can issue the Form I-20 needed to obtain the F-1 student visa:
1. Affidavit of Financial Support and Bank Certification. The Affidavit is a legal document that is signed by the sponsor (the person who will be providing the funds) stating the amount of funds that she/he will provide for the educational expenses of the student applicant and then certified by a bank official that the sponsor does have that amount of funds in his/her account. This form represents an obligation on the part of the sponsor to provide the required amount of funds as indicated on the form. Please review the Estimated Costs of Attendance for International Students to determine the amount of funds needed to be written on the Affidavit.
2. Transfer students. F-1 students who are attending another educational institution in the United States are required to notify the international student advisor at their current institution of their intention to transfer and to determine the date when their SEVIS record should be released to UNF. After the release date the student may obtain a new SEVIS I-20 from the International Center at UNF.
F-1 students who are attending a non-SEVIS educational institution in the United States must notify the international student advisor at their current institution of their intention to transfer and to obtain a SEVIS I-20 from UNF.

In order to officially complete the transfer to UNF, it is the responsibility of the international transfer student to notify the International Center within 15 days of enrollment at UNF.

Health Requirements
The State of Florida requires the following of all international students:
1. Immunization Documentation Form. All students at the University of North Florida are required to demonstrate that they either have been vaccinated or have immunity against measles and rubella. If students wish to resolve this requirement before they arrive they will need to have their physician complete and then sign and stamp the Immunization Documentation Form. If students wish they can obtain the needed immunizations once they arrive in Florida. However, in no case will they be able to register for or attend classes until they have met this requirement.
2. Health Insurance. The State of Florida requires proof of medical insurance that meets a minimum standard as a prerequisite to registration. Health insurance coverage can be purchased through the UNF Student Health Services upon arrival. If a student would want to request UNF to accept a different insurance policy, the insurance company must fax a completed, signed, and stamped UNF Student Health Services International Student Health Insurance Evaluation Form indicating that the alternate insurance policy meets all minimal requirements as outlined. Students may not register for classes until the health insurance requirement is met.
