Monthly Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed to help on a daily basis (Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2pm-5pm &
Mondays & Thursdays 10am-1pm) at the UNF Lend-A-Wing Pantry.
In the summer of 2011 The Volunteer Center, an Executive Agency of Student Government,
created a new initiative to serve the students of UNF. The concept of an on-campus pantry was
adopted, which became available to students on April 3, 2012. The Lend a Wing Pantry is located
on the first floor of UNF Hall near the Cashier's Office in Bldg. 53, Room 1202. The pantry allows
students to take up to five pounds of food and hygiene products a day without any form of payment.
To volunteer for the Lend a Wing Pantry, please email lendawing@unf.edu, or stop by while we're
open. To donate to the Lend a Wing Pantry, please stop by the UNF Volunteer Center office in the
Student Union East Building (58E) Room 3401 or bring donations by the pantry, during open hours.
We ask that no alcohol, drugs, medicine, perishables, open containers or glass containers be donated
for safety reasons.

If you need to complete service hours this semester, Second Harvest is looking for volunteers to help at the Warehouse sorting and stocking food items for the “sharing floor”. Volunteers are also needed to help put together boxes of food for the holiday season. Volunteers can help anytime from 9am until 3pm on Monday-Thursday or from 9am until 1pm on Friday and Saturday. MENTOR/TUTOR A STUDENT
Make a difference while satisfying community service hours!
WHAT: Achievers for Life is a drop-out prevention program that targets at risk sixth grade students
and provides them and their families with academic support, a volunteer tutor, and an integrated, safety net of services.
WHO: Achievement Mentors/Tutors (volunteers like you):
- Are appropriately matched with a student of like interests.
- Meet with their student on middle-school campus.
- Become a friend and role model.
- Tutor students in academics and encourage them to reach their fullest potential.
WHERE: Ft. Caroline Middle, Arlington Middle, Northwestern Middle, Matthew Gilbert Middle, Jeff Davis Middle,
Ribault Middle, and Jeb Stuart Middle School
HOW: Mentoring/Tutoring sessions take place on the school campus at a time that is convenient for both you
and your student (including the lunch hour). Mentors meet once a week for a school year. Tutors commit at least
15 hours per school year.

Volunteer Opportunity with River Region Human Services
Where: Justina Community Center (3101-3 Justina Rd. , 32277) OR Beachwood
Community Center (11758 Marina Dr., 32246)
When: Mondays and Thursdays during the school year from 3:30-4:30pm
What: After school tutoring for students in K-6.
River Region is looking for tutors to help the young students in their afterschool program.
Specific help is needed in the areas of math and reading. Students may volunteer just once
or twice, but are also encouraged to become long-term volunteers. For those interested in
a longer-term volunteering experience, a background check will be needed. If you’re interested

Butler Middle School Media Center Volunteer Needed:
Butler Middle school library is seeking volunteers for the media center at Butler Middle School.
They need people who are eager to do anything from clerical work to creative displays, with every
duty moving the school toward our goal of higher achievement. A sampling of possible assignments
includes: book displays, circulation and front desk assistance, shelving and organization, and assistance
with literacy initiatives. Volunteers must have a positive attitude about working with children.

On-Campus Transition (OCT) Program is in need of Volunteers:
The On-Campus Transition (OCT) program is looking for individuals interested in volunteering/mentoring one hour
per week for a student in their program. Each student in the program has an intellectual disability, which puts them
at risk for poverty and not being able to have the choices we take for granted each day. The OCT is a unique program
for young adults with intellectual disabilities between the ages 18-25 who have strong desire to become independent
members of society. The program allows these students to audit UNF courses, work with peer mentors, develop job
skills, and be an integral part of college campus life in order to transition them into adulthood. Mentors will have a set
time and date during which they are volunteering with one of our students. During that time, they act as a fitness mentor,
social mentor, or academic mentor. It is an easy way to have a new experience with someone whose path you would
never cross on campus and make friendships that last forever.
The OCT mission is to provide an informational learning opportunity, within an inclusive educational community, for young
adults with intellectual disabilities, university students, college educators, and community leaders. The OCT goal is to
create independent lifelong learners who are connected to their community.
