Volunteering with the Women’s Center is a great way to get involved on campus. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit your interests and schedule, and it’s easy to get started! Just fill out the Volunteer Application and bring it to the Women’s Center during office hours. A staff member will contact you to schedule your volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Groups 

Participation in more than one volunteer group is encouraged and allowed. However, when completing your application, please select the volunteer group you are most interested in joining based off the following descriptions:

Office Staff
Duties for the position include, but are not limited to, front desk management, Lounge and library upkeep, organizing office spaces, and other clerical duties as assigned.

Event Staff
Duties for the position include, but are not limited to, assisting with event set-up and breakdown, helping with tasks as assigned during an event, and helping the media team advertise an event. Please be advised that the time and dates of events may vary. Some events take place during the evening hours (between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.)

Media Team
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, tabling at Market Days and during other events, creating road signs and banners for events, providing ideas for newsletter content, and assisting the Events Coordinator with the marketing and promotion of Women’s Center events.

Presentation Team
This position requires training that is only offered during the summer term. Duties for this position include facilitating workshops and trainings, giving classroom presentations, and serving as a peer educator.

Victim Advocacy
This position requires training that is only offered during the summer term. A victim advocate must meet certain criteria to be selected for training. Duties include providing support service to callers of the 24-hour Crisis Helpline, being on-call weekdays, holidays and weekends to assist callers, and supporting the full-time victim advocate, Maurisha Bishop.

Student Leadership Council

Students are encouraged to volunteer to serve on the SLC. They will represent the voices of the university's diverse student population and advise the Women's Center staff on gender issues that are important to students. Duties for the SLC include — but are not limited to — serving as a student adviser to the Women’s Center on outreach and event planning, acting as a liaison to the larger student body population and representing the Center to other campus organizations.
The council's purpose is to: 

  • Communicate and promote the mission of the Women's Center
  • Enhance student awareness of gender consciousness
  • Solicit feedback from individuals and student organizations on gender issues that are important to them
  • Establish relationships and partnerships with student organizations to advocate for social justice
