Check on the Housing and Residence Life website for the cost and information for Intersession storage for August. If you are interested in storage for the entire summer, most of the local self–storage facilities have discounts for UNF students with ID.You or your student can call a week ahead or pre-book to take advantage of current specials and to guarantee a set rate. I have not visited the following locations nor does the University endorse them, but here are some of the closer businesses to call to get the best rate and location for your student:

The Community First Credit Union has a branch office on campus and many students have accounts there. It isn’t required to have an account with the campus branch of Community First. It just makes it easier for many of the students, especially those who don’t have transportation. One of the benefits is that they know the students and provide financial education for them. If you don’t have a branch of Community First in your city, this is what you would do to transfer money to the Community First account. Check to see what credit unions are in your area. Then visit this web site, www.cuservicecenter.com.  If your credit union is on the list, then you can go there (without having an account) and give them your student’s account number and they will transfer the money for you at the time you are there so your son or daughter will get it immediately.  

If you prefer,  check out the local banks to find a student account that fits your needs and open an account at a bank. There are many branches near the university. 

The meal plan is purchased from Chartwell’s, the campus food services vendor, and the value of the meal plan plus dining dollars is transferred to the Osprey1 Card which will be swiped when the student eats in the cafeteria or another facility on campus. If you want to add more value to the meal plan, you will call and give them a credit card number or send a check.  

In addition to the meal plan there is another stripe on the Osprey1card where value can also be added.  This will be used in laundry machines, vending machines, for making  copies in the library, and making purchases at the bookstore, campus eating facilities or at local restaurants, a drug store and a gas station near the university. Money can be added at the Office of Auxiliary Services by cash or check. Value can be added with a credit card at the www.osprey1card.com website. 

CRITERIA: 

·         Accepted to UNF

·         Completed at least 24 credit hours as an undergraduate student

·         Earn a minimum UNF GPA of 3.0

·         Demonstrate a commitment to community service

·         Be in good Academic and Disciplinary standing

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY: 

·         Enroll full-time (12 credit hours) each semester and earn a minimum of 24 credits by the end of each academic year

·         Remain in good standing as a student

·         Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0   

·         Comply with all University regulations, rules, policies, and Student Code of Conduct

·         Consent to release grades to the Division of Institutional Advancement for the purposes of reporting to the Donor

·         Consent to release Disciplinary Records

·         Attend yearly Donor-Scholar luncheon or Donor related events

RENEWAL:  

Current recipients may apply for renewal and will be given preference pending availability of funding, and if all of the preceding requirements have been met.  No student will be eligible to receive more than six semesters of scholarship support. 

The scholarship application is available each year during spring semester. Interviews will be conducted before the end of the spring semester and the funds will be available for the following fall and spring semesters.

Southwest Airlines usually has some good deals, in some cases the air fare is less than a tank of gas one way. It saves a lot of time plus the expense of parents driving to pick up their student and possibly an overnight stay. Be on the lookout for deals and try to book in advance – from a satisfied parent in Fort Lauderdale.
