The War is Against Me Ft. CeCe McDonald

CeCe McDonald has helped turn a national spotlight on the violence and discrimination faced by transgender women of color. This hasn’t come without cost - after using deadly force to protect herself from a group of people who attacked her on the streets of Minneapolis, she served 19 months in prison. In this talk, CeCe speaks about violence against trans women, the prison industrial complex, and how to combat it.

Safe Space Training

Please register through the CPDT Course Registration Link in MyWings. 

 

Safe Space training provides faculty and staff the opportunity to learn LGBT terminology and resources for LGBT people and their allies. Participants will dialogue on strategies to reduce homophobia and heterosexism on campus and have opportunities ask questions throughout. Training attendees receive a Safe Space sticker at the end of the training. Attendees MUST R.S.V.P. by logging into MyWings and clicking on "CPDT Class Register." From there, select the course titles "Creating Safe Spaces for LGBT Students, Faculty and Staff." This course is also part of the Cultural Competency Pursuit program.

Building a System of Care for LGBTQ Children and Youth in Jacksonville

Please join us to launch a region-wide endeavor to build a health and mental health system of care for our community’s LGBTQ children and youth. We are convening national and local experts in LGBTQ pediatrics and mental health to join with youth, their families and community organizations in this initiative. To succeed, we need your participation to identify ways in which we can strengthen and promote the health and well-being of LGBTQ children and youth in Jacksonville.

 

This is a free event, open to the public.  On Wednesday, February 8th, sessions begin at 10:00am and end at 5:00pm.  On Thursday, February 9th, sessions begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm.

Courageous Conversations: When Love Hurts

Courageous Conversations is a collaborative speaker series that examines current issues in our nation that directly impact our community. This event will look at relationship violence. The One Love Foundation will show a 40-minute film called "Escalation." UNF and community facilitators will lead small group dialogues immediately following the film. This emotionally powerful film aims at raising awareness about the warning signs of abusive relationships. One in three women and one in four men will experience relationship violence in their lifetime.

UNF Sex Week: Campus Safety Panel

 A panel discussion about the rights and resources here in the campus community regarding sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexual violence. The panel will include representatives from various UNF departments. The panelists will discuss a variety of on-campus resources related to matters such as the Clery Act, Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA), Title IX, counseling and mental health services, campus safety, and LGBTQ issues (such as classroom use of proper gender pronouns for trans and gender non-conforming students and the newly enacted Preferred Name Policy). There will be opportunity for audience participation/Q&A. This discussion covers topics of great importance to the entire Osprey community and all faculty, staff, and students are strongly encouraged to attend.
