This is the gateway course for the Minor in Community Leadership, though students do not have to declare the minor in order to enroll. The course introduces participants to the major theories of leadership and their application in personal and professional settings. Participants engage in self-reflective and applied learning activities that allow them to draw upon their personal characteristics and experiences in order to make connections between class work and their own developing leadership style.
Credits: 3Description: This course engages diverse approaches to the theory and practice of conflict resolution and the methods for understanding, managing and transforming conflict as a means toward personal, organizational, and systemic change. This course explores the nature of conflict that is borne by individual, relational, cultural and structural differences and inequalities. Understanding how we respond to conflict can be highly enlightening and facilitate transformative learning through academic, experiential and reflective engagements. Leaders need to be able to negotiate conflict in ways that don't simply resolve it, but transforms it as people, organizations and systems change toward constructive ends that advance the common good and build a world of peace and justice. This course will teach students the skills to engage those change efforts. This course is open to all Juniors and Seniors and satisfies primary elective requirement for the Minor in Community Leadership.
