Credits: 3Description: Multiple sections are offered each term. This is the gateway course for the Leadership Minor, though students do not have to declare the minor in order to enroll. The course introduces participants to the major theories of leadership and their application in personal and professional settings. Participants engage in self-reflective and applied learning activities that allow them to draw upon their personal characteristics and experiences in order to make connections between class work and their own developing leadership style.
LDR 3320: Collaborative Leadership
Description: Prerequisite: LDR 3003;The focus of this course is on leadership within the context of small work groups and self-directed project teams and their role and functions within community organizations. The purpose of this course is to teach students how to collaborate effectively in an ever-changing world by building the foundation for leadership in both theory and practice that can be applied to any organization or group. As a result of the information explosion, increasing numbers of leaders are needed who are able to work collaboratively and lead across cultures and disciplines from business to educational environments. Business people are working with individual and groups from all culture and walks of life on every continent. Collaborative leadership knowledge and skills have become a necessity to enable emerging leaders to transcend differences to build organizations and teams of committed workers. This course is generally presented in the "hybrid" model, using both online and classroom delivery methods. This course satisfies the primary elective requirement for the Leadership Minor.
Description: Intergroup Dialogue is designed to provide foundational skills and knowledge needed to participate in and facilitate multicultural group interactions. It assumes that the most effective facilitators of cross cultural interactions possess competent levels of awareness, skill, knowledge and passion. Topics include: social identity development; prejudice and stereotyping and their effects on groups; the dynamics of difference and power, and their impact on the nature of social oppression and/or the positive advancement of equity , civility, and justice in the world; and development of group facilitation skills and their application to multicultural settings. Particular emphasis is placed on interpreting leadership theory and practice in the context of values, the Social Change Theory of leadership development, UNF's six core values, and related processes of values integration. This course is open to all Juniors and Seniors and satisfies the primary elective requirement for the Leadership Minor.
