Learning Outcomes
There are nine Learning Outcomes that are used to assess UNF Student Leadership Development. Listed below you will find the outcomes and their indicators.
Outcome 1: Intellectual Development

Demonstrates a shift toward adult learning practice as one becomes increasingly responsible for owning and managing one's own learning goals.

Applies previously understood information and concepts to a new situation or setting.

Demonstrates an inter-disciplinary approach to learning that views issues through the lens of diverse disciplines and multiple perspectives.

Uses complex information from a variety of sources (including personal experience and observation) to reason effectively by constructing meaning, making decisions, and forming one's opinion.

Rigorous thinking about possible meaning through the active, persistent, and careful consideration of facts and values that inform one's knowledge and the conclusions drawn from that knowledge.

When engaging problems, the student demonstrates analytical ability to see component parts and their relationship to the whole.

Demonstrates intellectual freedom in the pursuit of truth and knowledge through personal motivation and creativity.

Makes the connections between classroom and out of classroom learning.
Outcome 2: INTRA-PERSONAL Development

Student demonstrates a willingness to pursue self-understanding and an honest and realistic self assessment that informs one's actions and goals.

Exhibits a healthy self-confidence by demonstrating self-esteem that empowers one to functions autonomously and exhibit self-reliant behavior, without need for constant reassurance from others.

Demonstrates a "can do" attitude that is willing to take reasonable risks in pursuit of creative, imaginative, entrepreneurial, and innovative initiatives.

Acknowledges personal strengths and knows when to appropriately demonstrate them to others.

Knowledgeable of one's own short-comings, welcomes feedback from others and supervisors, and learns from past experiences to constructively pursue self-improvement.

The student understands one's own identity in the context of his/her ethnicity, race, class, culture and gender.
Outcome 3: Values Integration

Understands and appreciates the significance of values and acknowledges the role of values in one's personal and educational development and their application to leadership development.

Knows one's personal, work and lifestyle values and understands how those values influence one's behaviors and decision making.

Comfortable talking with others about ones beliefs and values.
-
Makes decisions and acts in congruence with one's personal values, the values of UNF, and the norms of one's professional practice.

Open and respectful to contrasting values of others and new learning and experience that prompts a re-evaluation of one's own personal values.

Understands roles of spirituality in personal and group values and behaviors.
-
Knows UNF's six institutional values and seeks to integrate those values into one's own developing value system.
Outcome 4: INTER-PERSONAL Competence

Establishes and maintains positive and mutually rewarding interpersonal relationships with friends and colleagues.

Values teamwork, comprehends group dynamics and works cooperatively with others, contributing to building consensus and achievement of group goals to the mutual satisfaction of member's needs.

Acts and speaks in one's own best interests, able to stand up for oneself without undue anxiety, to express one's thoughts and feelings without undue anxiety, and to exercise one's rights without denying the rights of others.

Demonstrates respect for all persons even amidst conflicting positions, always maintaining civility; respectfully challenges the unfair, unjust, or uncivil behavior of other individuals or groups.

Recognizes and engages conflict and seeks to manage it in ways that resolve and/or transform the conflict.
Outcome 5: Effective Communication

Thinks before one speaks; frames the subject matter, weighs the context, and strategically accesses how to best to engage the conversation in the most effective and productive manner.

Ability to articulate and organize one's thoughts in a coherent fashion and effectively articulates abstract ideas.

Demonstrates good writing skills, vocabulary and grammatical syntax; Writes in an orderly way that is coherent and communicative.

Ability to receive information, hear other points of view, exhibit empathy and relay positive messages to the communicator.

Good presentation/communication skills in a large group, able to positively engage audience.
-
The student's speaking and writing has an influence that elicits a positive responsiveness from others.

Ability to plan and execute meetings effectively.
Outcome 6: Appreciation of Diversity

Awareness and appreciation for racial, religious, cultural, gender, ability and sexual orientation differences.

Ability to work with people from different backgrounds; Welcomes and nurtures relationships with people different than oneself.

Seeks new experiences and opportunities that are outside one's ordinary experience.

Understands the impact of diversity on society and talks with others about the consequences on social institutions and the development of public policy.

Student is "tuned-in" to the language and actions of others that exhibit racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice or bigotry, and then appropriately challenges such behavior.

Ability to be open to new ideas and practices, i.e. engaging and respecting a diversity of ideas even if they appear to be contrary to one's own worldview.
Outcome 7: Citizenship & Community Engagement

Awareness of how individual actions affect the welfare of the community.

A commitment to action on issues of social justice, grounded in one's responsibility to the community, the equality of all persons, and an obligation to promote the common good.

Recognizes that one's individual intervention in social problems has a impact, and that it is both possible and consequential.

Recognizes the interdependency of nations and peoples as well as the political, economic, ecological, and social concepts and values that affect lives across national boundaries.

Understands ones civic responsibility as a citizen-participant in democratic government and demonstrates that in actions and attitudes associated with democratic governance and social participation.

Knowledgeable on how governments function and the challenge of coalition-building to impact change; politically engaged as participant in the political discourse shaping public policy.

Appreciates one's relationship with the Earth and recognizes the foundational principles of environmentally sustainability.
Outcome 8: Practical Competencies

Sets, articulates, pursues and re-evaluates long-term goals and objectives; Overcomes obstacles that hamper goal achievement.

Utilizes appropriate and sophisticated technical applications.

Manages time and personal affairs effectively by balancing the responsibilities of education, work, family and leisure.

Articulates and re-evaluates career choices based on assessment of interests, values, skills, abilities, opportunities and societal needs.

Courteous, honest and responsible in dealings with colleagues, customers and associates; Personal ethics, quality of work, and quality of attitude that goes above and beyond minimal expectations.

Chooses behaviors and environments that advance personal and community health and reduce risk.
Outomce 9: Leadership Style

Identifies one's personal leadership style and philosophy and relates insights to the application of the leadership process.

Acknowledges that leadership is just not about the "leader person," that it is fundamentally a relational process, and that everyone has a leadership capacity.

Demonstrates appreciation of others and their work, giving evidence of instilling trust and support to group members (Kouzes & Posner).
-
Assimilates and acts upon theories and strategies of change.
-
Recognizes influence of multiple aspects of leadership (i.e. cross-cultural/global approaches to leadership, application of the leadership process across diverse organizational contexts, etc.).
