ATTENTION RESIDENTS: Do you need a roommate?

If you are a resident and have not made a decision as to who your roommate will be, the Department of Housing and Residence Life is proud to announce a new tool for you: UNF's Roommate Search System! This opt-in system is designed to allow those residents who are interested in self-selecting their roommate for upcoming terms. The system is gender and classification-specific, so you will only be sharing your information with prospective roommates who will also be living on campus, not the entire residential population. Participants will complete the Roommate Search System questionnaire, which will gather the following information:

Roommate Search System Resident Profile

Personal Information: name, hometown, classification, phone number, housing area preferences, Facebook account

Education Information: school, major, minor

Personal Habits: cleanliness, television use, favorite shows, music use, favorite genres

Sleep Habits/Schedule: time to bed, tv use/radio use, wake up time, sleeping sensitivity

Study Habits: study freqency, study location, tv use/radio use

Social Habits: tobacco use, alcohol use

Get started by clicking on the "Roommate Search System" link. Read through the terms and conditions of using the system, and then select the appropriate button at the bottom of the page. Once you have accepted the terms and conditions, you can create your Roommate Search Profile. Then you are able to start searching through other residents' profiles to find prospective roommate(s). You can then message users you find to see what similarities you have, discuss what items you each want to bring to campus, and which room type you both prefer. Add your best matches to your "Prospective Roommate List," and then officially request your roommate through the appropriate process below.

Participating Summer B 2013 Residents can submit their roommate preference on their Summer B Housing Contract. If you have already submitted a Housing Contract before identifying a roommate, you can list your identified roommate on a Summer B Housing and Residence Life Preference and Interest Form which will become available on April 1, 2013. Note: only mutual roommate requests will be honored.

Participating Fall 2013/Spring 2014 First-Year Residents will submit a Housing and Residence Life Preference and Interest Form. This form will allow identified roommates to list each other on the form and submit the form electronically. The form will become available online on April 1, 2013. Note: only mutual roommate requests will be honored.

What is the Roommate Search System?

The Roommate Search System was created for incoming freshmen who have not made a decision as to who their roommate will be. By building a resident profile and self-selecting potential roommates, we hope that this system will encourage communication among potential roommates.
How do I access the Roommate Search System?

You can access the Roommate Search System by clicking on the Roommate Search System located under Resident Tools in Resident Resources, at the bottom of the "First Year Housing Information" page, or at the top of the current page.
What is my Resident Profile?

The Resident Profile displays information about major/minor, cleanliness, entertainment, study and sleeping habits, area preferences, interests, hobbies, and roommate preference statements. You can view/edit your Resident Profile by selecting "Your Resident Profile" on the left of any page in the Roommate Search System.
What is my Prospective Roommate List?

When viewing a potential roommate's profile, there is an option to add them to your Prospective Roommate List on the top right of the page. When this is selected, you can view the resident quickly by clicking "Prospective Roommate List" on the left of any page in the Roommate Search System.
Do I have to use the Roommate Search System?

If a student does not participate in the Roommate Search System, Summer B residents will be assigned based on the preferences listed on the Summer B Housing Contract. Fall residents will be assigned based on the preferences listed on their Preference/Interest form.
What do I do if I already have a roommate in mind?

If you already have a roommate in mind for Summer B, you can list that person on your Housing Contract or put them on the Summer B Preference/Interest form. If you already have a roommate in mind for Fall/Spring, you will be able to list that person on the Preference/Interest form which will become available April 1, 2013.
What if I listed someone as a roommate preference on my Housing Contract?

Roommate preferences from a Housing Contract are displayed before you complete the registration process of the Roommate Search System. If you were not presented with a message stating that you currently have a roommate preference on file, this most likely means that the roommate you listed has not completed a Housing Contract of their own.
How do I update my Resident Profile?

You can update your resident profile by selecting "Your Resident Profile" on the left of any page in the Roommate Search System.
Who can see my Resident Profile?

Your Resident Profile is only accessible by other same-gendered system users, looking for a roommate for the same term.
How long do I have to create my Resident Profile for Fall/Spring?

The earlier you complete your Resident Profile, the sooner other residents will be able to locate you and contact you to be roommates. You have until to access the Roommate Search System.
I do/do not receive emails from this system, how do I change that?

If you select "Your Resident Profile" on the left of any page in the Roommate Search System, there is a checkbox under your e-mail address which asks if you want to be notified regarding notifications in this system. If the checkbox is checked, you will receive emails, if it is not, you will not. Be sure to select the update button at the bottom of the page after making any changes.
How do I search for other residents using the Roommate Search System?

You can search for other residents by selecting "Search Resident Profiles" on the left of any page in the Roommate Search System. There is a list of questions with drop downs to the right which allow you to narrow the pool of potential roommates.
How do I add residents I've found to my prospective roommate list?

After searching for other residents, you can select the "Add to Prospective Roommate List" button by their name, or select the same link on the user's profile.
How do I pick a roommate for Fall/Spring?

Residents looking for a Fall 2012/Spring 2013 roommate(s) will need to get the Roommate Pull-In Password from their requested roommate(s) and use that during the appropriate Fall 2012/Spring 2013 Priority Housing Sign-up and Room Selection Process.
There is someone I DO NOT want to be roommates with, what do I do?

As all roommate requests must be mutual, only requests you make will be honored, if possible. In the event there are multiple requests from you, the most recent request will be honored, if possible.
What if people I am communicating with are not communicating with me?

This resident may have already chosen another roommate and ceased using the system.
