Financial Questions

Where do I pay for my housing?

We prefer that you make payment online through your myWings account with an e-check or with a credit card, other than VISA. PAYMENTS CAN NOT BE MADE WITH A VISA DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD. You can also make your payment at the Cashier’s Office at UNF Hall.
Can I defer my rent?

You may be able to defer all or a portion of your rent if you have enough financial aid in place by our due date. Keep in mind, we must be able to see your aid in our system in order to defer your rent against it, and you must have submitted a pending worksheet in order to be deferred for rent.
What type of room will Florida Prepaid pay for?
Historically, Florida Prepaid has approved payment for the following residential rooms:
- Double Occupancy in Osprey Cove
- Double Occupancy in Osprey Landing
- Double Occupancy in Osprey Hall
- 2 Bedroom (4 person) in Osprey Village
- Double in Osprey Fountains
If you elect to live in a more expensive room, you would only need to pay the shortage that Florida Prepaid does not pay.
Can my Florida Prepaid Dormitory plan be used for the summer semester?

Florida Prepaid discourages using your plan for summer because it is a shorter semester and you will have to use a full credit of your Prepaid. It is better to use your credits toward the longer semesters. However, it can be used for summer if you choose by having the purchaser of the plan write a letter to Florida Prepaid asking them to approve using it during the summer. Once approved, we will bill them for your rent.
Can I live in an area that is not approved by Florida Prepaid?

Yes. We will bill at the highest rate they have approved and you will pay the shortage between the cost of an approved room and your assigned room cost.
My parents pay my bills. Can I have correspondence sent to them?

No. All correspondence from the Housing Office is sent to the residents at their campus mail box or through their UNF e-mail address. One exception is your fall invoice which is sent to you at your address of record which you provide.
Can I pay my housing online through my myWings account?

Yes, you can pay with an e-check or a credit card other than VISA. PAYMENTS CAN NOT BE MADE WITH A VISA DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD. To only pay a portion of your rent, type over the amount that is posted as "Housing" with the amount you wish to pay.
Is the due date for housing the same as the due date for tuition?

No. Housing has an earlier due date than tuition. Please refer to the website for exact dates, but typically fall rent is due August 1st and spring rent is due December 1st.
I’m a new student and will be attending Summer B and Fall. Do I send in $300 with each contract?

No. Send in $300 with the first contract. We will apply $100 to the non-refundable processing fee and $200 will be applied to your rent once it is assessed to your account.
What does “defer/pend my rent” mean?

If you have enough financial aid reflected on your awards screen you may defer/pend all or part of your rent. Submit the “Pending Worksheet” on the housing financial web page. If there is a balance due, it MUST be paid by the published due date via your myWings account. We will only defer/pend the portion financial aid will pay.
I have financial aid but not enough to cover all of my housing.

Submit the “Pending Worksheet” on the housing financial web page. Upon completion, your calculations will reflect the balance you will need to pay. The only portion due by the published due date is the amount NOT covered by financial aid. This can be paid by e-check or credit card on your MyWings. VISA IS NOT AN OPTION FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS.
My financial aid is not reflected on my awards screen. How will this affect deferring my rent?

If you do not have any financial aid reflected we will not be able to defer your rent. You will need to pay in full by the published due date. Keep in mind it can take 4-6 weeks for UNF to be notified of any federal funding you may be receiving. Plan accordingly. We suggest you complete your FAFSA no later than March 1st for each academic year to avoid this problem.
I’m in verification. What does this mean and how does this affect my housing status?

Each year the federal government randomly selects about a third of all students to verify the information you have submitted on your FAFSA. This means they will request specific information to verify the information you submitted. You must submit this as soon as possible as your financial aid WILL NOT pay until this process is completed. If you are selected for verification One Stop Student Services can help you determine if you have submitted the necessary documents. We will continue to keep your housing deferred until mid-term. After that if your housing is not paid as a result of the documents not being submitted timely you may be asked to pay for your housing personally.
My financial aid has not paid for my housing yet. What does this mean?

There could be several reasons for this. The best thing to do is contact One Stop Student Services and they will be able to assist you.
I have Florida Prepaid Housing. What do I need to do?

You should have marked that you have Florida Prepaid on your housing contract. If you did we will automatically bill them. Additionally, please submit the “Pending Worksheet” on the housing financial web page. If you are assigned to one of the residence halls NOT covered by Florida Prepaid you will need to pay the shortage by the published due date.
Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, it is the Residential Alternative Payment Plan (RAPP), which is divided into eight equal installments, beginning on August 1st, until March 1st.
Keep in mind, you must first exhaust all of your financial aid options, including loans, before a payment plan will be offered.
Why do I have to pay for housing much earlier than tuition?

There is a great deal of preparation that takes place before check-in each term. We need to know how many students will be living with us early enough to prepare the various facilities. The early payment assures you will have a bed space on campus. It also allows housing time to employee and train the necessary personnel to accommodate the residential population.
I have a Housing Hold (H) on my account.

This is generally a result of a past due housing charge. Once you pay the balance due, the hold will automatically be released from your account. It can take up to 4 hours for this automated process to run.
I have a Financial Hold (FH) on my account and the Cashier’s office says it’s because of housing.

An “FH” hold is the result of having a past due balance at the University. It is not necessarily a housing balance. The” FH” holds are generated automatically once the due date on any charge passes. The only way for this hold to be released is to pay the balance due. If the open balance is related to housing we will be happy to review your account with you to determine why this hold was generated. Since this is not a hold housing applies to the student’s account we CAN NOT remove the hold. This hold can only be removed by the Cashier’s office.
