Why Alpha Tau Omega?
We believe that great chapters produce great men for the
things that do not yet exist.
ATO has more than 135 chapters nationwide, more than 6,500
undergraduate members and 200,000 initiated members. Our undergraduate
leadership development programs are unmatched nationally as ATO has earned the
distinction of being America's Leadership Development Fraternity.
The Fraternity was founded on September 11, 1865, to help
heal the wounds of the North and South caused by the Civil War.
Otis Allan Glazebrook, Erskine Mayo Ross and Alfred Marshall
founded ATO at the Virginia Military Institute and was not established in
imitation of or in opposition to any existing fraternity. ATO was founded upon
brotherly love, with Christian principles, not Greek principles, as the
cornerstones of the Fraternity. We openly welcome members of all faiths and administer no rituals that would conflict with their inner beliefs.
ATO has been fundamental in creating and supporting
conferences nationwide that help build better men. Leadershape, held every summer at Allerton
Park, just outside of Champaign, Illinois, first began by ATO over 25 years ago. It is regarded as the foremost undergraduate leadership development program in the nation.
ATO does not tolerate hazing in any way, shape or form. ATO is about leadership and brotherhood. We will act swiftly and decisively when dealing with risk management violations.
