Eta DeltaUniversity of North Florida
Delta Gamma was founded by Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd, and Mary Comfort Leonard in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Lewis School for Girls near the University of Mississippi. The early growth for Delta Gamma was confined to women's colleges in the South. Within a few years, Delta Gamma was established in the North and then later expanded to the East. In 1891, Delta Gamma was one of the seven charter members of the National Panhellenic Conference when the first inter-sorority meeting was held in Boston.
As the population moved West, so did Delta Gamma. What began as a club in the South soon became an international fraternity in both scope and thinking as Delta Gamma established itself not only in the United States, but also in Canada. Through the years, goals and achievements have grown as Delta Gammas continue to live by the motto set forth by the Founders, "Do Good."
President: Chandler Thompson
My name is Chandler Thompson, I am from Orlando, Florida. I
am nineteen years old and the youngest president in the history of Eta Delta. Before
becoming President, I held the position of Vice President programming. I am a
current sophomore here at UNF studying Psychology. I am attending college in
hopes of becoming a counselor or therapist for teens and women with eating
disorders or depression. During the summer, I work as a middle school youth
leader for The First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. I joined Delta Gamma in
the Fall of 2011. I started the idea of
“Complimonday” that has not only reached Delta Gamma nationwide but
Panhellenic as a whole as well. I have participated in Dance Marathon for two
years and actively work volunteering for Best Buddies. Some of my hobbies
include volunteering, spending time with my friends and family, going for beach
runs and playing the guitar.
Recruitment Chair: Haley Lytle
Hi my name is Haley Lytle and I am the Vice President of
Membership for the Delta Gamma sorority. I am currently a Junior majoring in
Finance and Nursing at the University of North Florida. Previous positions I
have held in Delta Gamma are Director of Anchor Splash and Director of
Membership. I have been volunteering at the Mayo clinic of Jacksonville for the
past two years and I also enjoy running 5ks.
My favorite thing about being a member of Delta Gamma is being able to
spend quality time with my sisters and doing fun things together like going to
the gym or the beach.
