Noor Inayat Khan Interfaith Community Service Scholarship

About Noor Inayat Khan:

Noor Inayat Khan was a young Muslim heroine who joined the British network of spies sending coded messages between England and the French Resistance. Noor was daughter of an American mother and a Sufi Muslim Master from Indiad and grew up in a Sufi interfaith center in Paris. She was living in Paris when the Nazi invasion occurred. Resisting numerous opportunities to escape to safety, Noor’s selfless decision to aid the resistance (and save countless lives) ultimately cost her own.

The UNF Interfaith Center is proud to present the Noor Inayat Khan Interfaith Community Service Award each spring to two outstanding students. Each winner receives a tuition scholarship in the amount of $500 and a commemorative award.
This scholarship was made possible by generous contributions from members of the Jacksonville community and is intended to recognize the significant voluntary interfaith community service provided by student leaders through the UNF Interfaith Center.

For purposes of this scholarship, such “service” includes activities like:

    • Leadership involving volunteering on campus or in the Jacksonville community for the common good;

    • Leadership of programs or events designed to raise awareness around a pressing social issue; and/or

    • Leadership in planning community events designed to bring people together across differences of religious, spiritual, and other values-based worldviews (Example: student planning and implementing UNF’s Interfaith Week events).

Criteria

  • Significant voluntary interfaith community leadership through the UNF Interfaith Center or Better Together at UNF.
  • A full-time student in good standing
  • A minimum 2.75 G.P.A.
  • On nomination, applicant will be asked to tell their interfaith community service leadership story in a short essay/story (500 words or less).

Candidate applications are screened by a committee comprised of the UNF Interfaith Center staff in consultation with two UNF faculty or staff members and/or individuals active in the Jacksonville interfaith community.
