In following with the Environmental Center's mission objective to "...conduct and support...projects involving sustainability..." we have provided resources for the campus community to become more involved in our efforts to promote sustainability within the community. The Environmental Center was instrumental in encouraging UNF to become the 644th signatory of the American Colleges & Universities Presidential Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). This commitment shows UNF's ability to exert leadership in addressing climate change. It will also help UNF to stabilize and reduce our long-term energy costs, attract excellent students and faculty, attract new sources of funding, and increase the support of alumni and local communities. As part of this commitment, UNF is mandated to implement a climate action plan. The first step towards this action is to create a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, which the Environmental Center conducted and released October 25, 2010.
American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment
The University of North Florida became a signatory of the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) when President John Delaney signed the commitment in October 2010.
The ACUPCC is a high-visibility effort to address global climate disruption undertaken by a network of colleges and universities that have made institutional commitments to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions from specified campus operations, and to promote the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth's climate. The Commitment recognizes the unique responsibility that institutions of higher education have as role models for their communities and in educating the people who will develop the social, economic and technological solutions to reverse global warming and help create a thriving, civil and sustainable society.
