January 28 to March 31, 2013 

RecycleMania is an ongoing, 10-week long, friendly competition between colleges and universities nationwide. Each school registered reports on their waste and recycling practices in different categories to rank themselves among other participating peer institutions. The goal of RecycleMania is to motivate the campus community to reduce wasteful practices and improve recycling behaviors.   

UNF participates in the Stephen K Gaski Per Capita Classic, in which schools compete to see which can collect the largest amount of paper, cardboard and bottles and cans on a per person basis. The Environmental Center organizes a dorm competition, where the residence halls compete with each other (Crossings vs. The Cove vs. The Landing, etc.) by tracking how much recycling is produced per student resident. The winning residence hall will receive a party in recognition of their hard work.  

RecycleMania Kick-Off Parties

To help get RecycleMania started, the Environmental Center is hosting kick-off parties in residence areas and handing out free food and recycling bins. 

All three kick-off Parties are from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00pm.

• On Wednesday, January 22rd in front of Housing's Office.  

• On Tuesday, January 29th at the Fountain first floor lobby.  

• On Thursday, January 31st at the Crossings.   

The dorm that wins the recycling competition will be rewarded with a party, the date is to be determined.

Volunteering for Recyclemania

The Environmental Center is looking for student volunteers to help coordinate and execute the 2013 Recyclemania Competition.

UNF Housing Recyclemania Competition

Outside the national competition, the UNF Environmental Center hosts a friendly inter-dormitory competition to see which dorm can recycle the most. Recycling bins have been placed throughout the UNF dorms and will be picked up weekly. We will record the total pounds of recycleables each dorm collects and to keep things fair, we will divide that total by the number of residents in each dorm. This number, recycleables per capita, will be used to determine the winner of the 2012 Recyclemania competition. The winning dorm will receive a pizza party and a screening of 'No Impact Man'.
