RecycleMania: February 3 to March 31, 2014

RecycleMania is an ongoing, 10-week long, friendly competition between colleges and universities nationwide. Each school registered reports on their waste and recycling practices in different categories to rank themselves among other participating peer institutions. The goal of RecycleMania is to motivate the campus community to reduce wasteful practices and improve recycling behaviors.

UNF participates in the Stephen K Gaski Per Capita Classic, in which schools compete to see which can collect the largest amount of paper, cardboard and bottles and cans on a per person basis. To learn more about RecycleMania or to see how UNF compares to other universities please visit In addition, the Environmental Center organizes a number of events to help educated students, faculty and staff about the importance of recycling and waste reduction.

Screening of the "TRASHED" documentary  - Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 7 pm

In the new docu-feature TRASHED, narrator Jermey Irons sets out to discover the extent and effects of the global waste problem, as he travels around the world to beautiful destinations tainted by pollution. This is a meticulous, brave investigative journey that takes Irons (and us) from scepticism to sorrow and from horror to hope. We buy it, we bury it, we burn it and then we ignore it. Does anyone think about what happens to all the trash we produce? We keep making things that do not break down. We have all heard these horrifying facts before, but with Jeremy Irons as our guide, we discover what happens to the billion or so tons of waste that goes unaccounted for each year.

The Environmental Center will be screening TRASHED Thursday, February 27 at 7 pm in the Student Union Building 58W, Room 3806. Free food will be provided, but please bring a reuasble cup to reduce waste!
