Our office is looking for a paralegal intern who wants to gain valuable job experience. Our firm handles a variety of cases in criminal and business areas and would like to offer an opportunity to a student.

The paralegal intern position is an unpaid position.


The intern’s duties and responsibilities will increase over time as mastery of skills and knowledge is attained.  Duties will generally progress as follows:

  • Answering phones and communication with potential clients
  • Filing, physical paper files and electronic files
  • Scanning and copying; Courthouse runs and deliveries
  • E-filing court documents; Scheduling appointments and depositions
  • Mail, incoming, outgoing, and certified
  • Pleadings; Open files
  • Discovery, draft answers, collect documents from clients, document production
  • Witness contacts and coordination; Legal research

Minimum Qualifications:

A paralegal student who is interested in gaining hands on experience; a student who is interested in Criminal Defense or Business law.  Preferably has completed 50% of their coursework.

Jacksonville Beach Law Firm - Intern

Description of Employer

Small law office in Jax Beach focusing primarily on family law, including divorce, child support, custody, paternity and timesharing. Senior partner, Kurt Simpson, is a native of Jax Beach, who started the Firm in 1982 after a successful career at the State Attorney’s office. He enjoyed a very successful career until his retirement in 2005. Diane Paull joined Mr. Simpson while studying for The Florida Bar exam in 2001 and became partner in 2003. Ms. Paull is originally from Michigan, and relocated to Florida after being recruited by Barnett Banks. She has been Managing Partner of the Firm since 2005. The Firm takes pride in serving the Beaches community with personal, yet professional, representation. 


Areas of Responsibility
Intern would be requested to assist with office responsibilities including filing, copying, answering phones, greeting guests, etc. Intern would assist lawyer with preparation of discovery documents such as Interrogatories, Requests to Produce, divorce financial compliance, witness preparation, hearing exhibits, etc. Assist with efiling and electronic discovery; assist in updating Case Management database; perform online research including Lexis, CORE, PACER, etc.

Miscellaneous Information
Senior Legal Assistant, Kathy, has been with the Firm since 1982 and is a wealth of information and experience. Doug is our other legal assistant, having started as Receptionist in 2007; he is a graduate of UNF and moved into handling discovery and financial documentation preparation in the last several years. We use Lexis for office research, ProDoc to assist with document assembly and Amicus Attorney for case management and accounting. We also have a wonderful little office dog, Duncan, so our intern must love dogs. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 5:00 pm.

Our firm provides representation exclusively to consumers who find themselves in financial trouble. We represent consumers in regards to defending against foreclosures, modifying their secured debts, unsecured debt negotiation, and consumer bankruptcy services to our clients. Our goal is to help every one of our clients; we do this carefully by utilizing our team’s working knowledge of the legal system and finding an answer that works. Interns will be assigned to a legal team consisting of at least one supervising attorney, paralegal, loss mitigation consultant, resolutions, etc. These teams provide the full support to a network of over 200 attorneys encompassing 48 states. Paralegal Internship Program

The intern will be responsible for performing and assisting in the following:

  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes.
  • Prepares legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, initial and amended articles of incorporation, stock certificates and other securities, buy-sell agreements, closing papers and binders, deeds, and trust instruments for review, approval, and use by, General Counsel.
  • Investigates facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly.
  • Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail
  • Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file.
  • Prepares foreclosure defense documents and assists in processing.
  • Acts as arbitrator and liaison between disputing parties.
  • Searches patent files to ascertain originality of patent application.
  • Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing system.
  • Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In 2013 we anticipate a steady selection of interns throughout the year. This is an unpaid internship program. We will cooperate in arrangements for school credit.
