| Admission Requirements | University requirements: - A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study.
Additional program requirements:(Literacy and Professional Education concentrations only) - Official transcripts from all attended institutions
- Official GRE scores
- Prior to July 1, 2011: combined scores of 1000
- After July 1, 2011: 151 verbal, 144 quantitative
- Three letters of reference
- Copy of teaching certificate or evidence of eligibiligy (Literacy concentration only)
- (i.e. graduation from a state-approved teacher education program)
Additional program requirements: (TESOL concentration only) - Official transcripts from all attended institutions
- Written statement of 500-1000 words that includes the following information:
- reasons for seeking admission into the M.Ed. in Elementary Education program
- professional goals
- how the program will help attain goals
Students should be aware that admission into any graduate program is granted on a competitive basis. Students meeting minimum requirements may be denied admission based on such factors as program capacity or academic discretion. Likewise, students may be considered for admission as an exception if stated admissions criteria are not met. |
| THE PROGRAM |
| Program Overview | The Master of Education in Elementary Education, with a specialization in Professional Education, is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue an in-depth study at the graduate level. The program consists of 36 semester hours of core and major requirements. The program does not carry additional endorsements. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Elementary Education, with a specialization in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), is designed to meet the needs of students with a teacher certification who wish to pursue a graduate degree. This particular program does not certify teachers or carry any additional endorsements. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Literacy is an advanced study program that does not carry certification or any additional endorsements. The program consists of 39 semester hours of core and major requirements. This program is intended for individuals who wish to gain more knowledge in the field of literacy. |
