Admission Requirements

University requirements:   

  1. A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study.

Additional program requirements:

  1. Official transcripts from all attended institutions
  2. A typewritten essay of three to five double-spaced pages describing your career goals and areas of historical interest
  3. Three letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should come from a former or current history professor.
  4. A writing sample on a historical topic (An undergraduate paper will suffice.)

Students should be aware that admission into any graduate program is granted on a competitive basis. Students meeting minimum requirements may be denied admission based on such factors as program capacity or academic discretion. Likewise, students may be considered for admission as an exception if stated admissions criteria are not met.

THE PROGRAM
Program Overview The UNF Master of Arts in History program offers concentrations in European and United States History .  Courses in African, Asian, and Latin American history are available and may be used to fulfill non-concentration requirements.  Students choose either a thesis or a non-thesis option.  Graduate students are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 average, and no student may be awarded a master's degree unless the graduate average is B or higher.

Special Notes about the Program

Students are not required to have been history majors, but it is expected that they will have taken the equivalent of at least a minor (15 credits) in undergraduate history courses. Students who have not met this requirement should consider taking additional undergraduate history courses at UNF before applying for the M.A. program.

 

Students will be required to have completed Craft of the Historian or its equivalent with a grade of B or better prior to full admission.
