The 1,300-seat Lazzara Performance Hall inside UNF’s Fine Arts Center is named for Gasper and Irene Lazzara, prominent civic leaders who donated $1.25 million to the performance hall’s funding. The fully equipped theatre has state-of-the-art lighting, sound and acoustics—and is the second largest theatre facility in the area. The Fine Arts Center presents an eclectic series of world-class performers, commercial entertainers, ethnic music and dance, cutting edge performances, and children’s programming as well as the premiere of new works to support upcoming artists. The 180-seat Recital Hall inside UNF’s Fine Arts Center is adjacent to the Lazzara Performance Hall, and shares its contemporary lobby. In addition to public events, the Recital Hall is often utilized as classroom and instructional space for the University. The music department and its students use the comfortable setting for faculty and student recitals, master classes, lecture demonstrations and rehearsal space. The Fine Arts Center serves a dual purpose: to enhance the academic programs on campus and to complement the cultural offerings within Jacksonville. Both short and long term artist residencies engage students at UNF across colleges and disciplines and provide opportunities for in-classroom interaction.
The Fine Arts Center is committed to stimulating the cultural and academic lives of University of North Florida students and the greater Jacksonville community by presenting diverse world-class performances by exceptional artists, providing incomparable arts immersions and outreach activities, and advancing the arts base of the world by commissioning new works and championing new artists.
