Abstract

The collection consists of 30 mounted photographs of historic architectural buildings and sites in Northeast Florida, primarily in urban Jacksonville, Florida, taken by Pam King in January 1977. Her work, as depicted in this collection, provides a visual documentation of notable urban and residential architecture in Northeast Florida in the second half of the twentieth century. Many of the sites have been added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places.

Acquisition

The collection was donated to the Library in 2011 by the UNF History Dept.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of 30 mounted photographs of historic architectural buildings and sites in Northeast Florida, primarily in urban Jacksonville, Florida, taken by Pam King in January 1977. The black and white photographs are mounted on heavy board, and vary in size ranging from 8" x 13" to 10" x 13 1/2". Inscribed on back of each board: "Pam King 1/77"; site names and addresses are provided on labels affixed to the boards. Images of historic buildings and sites include Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, Edward Waters College, Kingsley Plantation, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and the Old St. Johns Lighthouse in Mayport. The Jacksonville urban area is the prime setting for the majority of the images, including the Greenleaf Building, Jacksonville National Bank Building, Jacksonville Terminal Complex (now Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center), St. James Building, and Solomon Lodge.
