Classes and Workshops

I see you only offer office application classes in a PC environment. I use a MAC. Can I take office application classes on a PC and get the same benefit?

Technology courses are offered on the platform represented by the majority of the university community. We will continue to offer office applications on a PC environment until demand changes. Much of the content you will learn in class will be applicable on any platform: Mac or PC. The keystrokes and menus may differ slightly within platforms.
There is a software program our department uses that I need to learn, but I do not see it on your class schedule. Will you be adding this class to your calendar?

The training schedule distributed at the beginning of each term is designed for general software applications that are part of the campus computer client. If there is a software application your department uses that is not part of the training schedule, check SkillSoft, UNF’s e-Learning program.

Office and Computer Lab Locations

Where is CPDT located? Where are the computer training labs located?

CPDT is located in Building 1, Daniel Hall, Room 1301.

CPDT manages two labs. The Hicks Hall Training Lab is located in Building 53, Room 1400.

The Carpenter Library Training Lab is located in Building 12, Room 4301.
May our department reserve a CPDT computer training lab?

Yes. After we schedule CPDT's course offerings, we can then reserve a computer training lab for other departments. Please review how to reserve a computer lab for training.

E-Learning

What is e-Learning?

E-Learning is a general term that encompasses web-based learning, online learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms, and digital collaboration (American Society for Training and Development Handbook for Workplace Learning Professionals, 2008). The "e" in e-Learning stands for electronic, so e-Learning can include elements - in combination or alone - such as audio, video, live online chat, CD-ROMs, wikis, e-books, etc.
What types of e-Learning are available for employees at UNF?

UNF offers two e-Learning avenues. CPDT, in collaboration with other UNF departments, continually creates customized online learning opportunities for the faculty/staff community on an array of important subjects, such as Banner processes, tips for using email/telephone, and Golf Cart Safety.

In addition, CPDT has partnered with SkillSoft e-Learning to provide online courses and references to help you develop your business, professional and computer skills.

Why take e-Learning courses?
There are many reasons why you may choose to participate in e-Learning. Below are just a few of those reasons:
- Instructor-led courses are scheduled only as often as deemed appropriate by CPDT based on past enrollment and demand. If you need to get training in a topic area immediately and cannot wait for the next scheduled instructor-led session, e-learning courses serve as a solution.
- You may find that traditional classes are held at times or locations that are inconvenient to you personally.
- If instructor-led sessions tend to go too slow or too fast, e-Learning is an excellent solution since it is self-paced. This means you can stop and start your training whenever you want.
- For some staff, time is always an issue and leaving the office for hours at a time is not an option. With e-Learning courses, you can get training without ever leaving your desk.
Who can take e-Learning courses?

All of our e-Learning opportunities are directed toward the faculty/staff community. Additionally, students may participate in our SkillSoft courses as well.

Additionally you can find thousands of more online classes through SkillSoft. This program allows you to select business, professional and computer-related courses.

Registration, Cancellation and Rescheduling

How do I register for a class?
There are two ways to register for professional development and training courses at UNF. Before registering, please review the eligibility information and obtain approval from your supervisor.
- Register online via myWings. An N # is required for online registration.
- Print and complete a hard copy of the registration form from our web site. Then choose one of the following methods of delivery to CPDT: fax, inter-office mail, or drop the form off in person to the CPDT office.
By using online registration, you automatically enroll in a class you choose and reduce the available seats by one. All other methods of registration require manually processing registrations in the order that they are received. Regardless of the method you use to register, you will receive a reply either confirming your enrollment or stating that the class was full and you have been placed on a wait list. If you have not heard from us within three business days, please call us to be sure we have received your form.
I registered for a class and received a message stating that I need an override. What is this?

Some courses require prerequisites for attendance. For example, all series of beginning, intermediate and advanced courses require that you complete the beginning level prior to the intermediate and the intermediate prior to the advanced. If you are registering for a series of beginning, intermediate and advanced courses, you will be registered for the beginning level without the need of an override, if there is no prerequisite for the course. You will be registered for the intermediate and advanced levels with an override needed. As soon as you complete the beginning level, an override will be granted for the intermediate, etc.
I already have extensive experience using Excel (or another software application) and would like to register for the second level without completion of the beginning. May I skip the prerequisite?

Yes. If you have extensive computer skill and knowledge, prerequisites may be waived. When you register for the intermediate course, you will receive an override needed email because you have not met the prerequisite. Please email our office with information about the type and extent of experience you have had with the application you are registered for and a request for the override to be removed. You will receive an email notification letting you know when you have received the override.
I tried to register online using the Training Registration System (TRS) with my N # and password, but cannot get access to register.

If your N # and password do not allow you access to the TRS, but you are able to log into your computer and myWings, contact us. If you cannot login to your computer or myWings, call the ITS Help Desk.
What is the latest I can register for a class?

Since CPDT's training classes are filled on a first come, first served basis, it is best to sign up for classes as soon as possible to reserve a seat. The longer you wait to register, the greater the chance that all the available seats in a popular class will be taken. If the class you request is full, you will be added to the wait list. We ask that if you need to cancel your registration, you do so at least two business days before a class.

We reserve the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. This decision is usually made five business days before a class, so we recommend registering at least five days in advance. Please call us if you register less than five days in advance so that we can look for your registration and be sure to process it promptly.
I called and found out the class I want is full, but I was encouraged to send in a registration form anyway. Why?

If you register for a class that is full, you will be placed on the wait list for the class. If a space opens up and you are the first person on the wait list, you will be moved up to the class list. When there are several people on a wait list, we can often schedule an extra session of the class so that faculty and staff can get the training they need. When you register for a class that is full, it provides us with an accurate count of class demand. Knowing the university community's need for classes helps us plan future semesters.
How do I cancel my registration or reschedule my class?
Participants may withdraw from a class by following these steps:
1. Login to the myWings portal with your N# and password.
2. Click on the Home tab.
3. From the Quick Links menu (located on the right-hand side of the Home tab), click CPDT Class Register (Training).
4. Click the "My Classes" link from the left-hand navigation menu.
5. Select the course you are registered for by clicking the radio button beside it.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click the "Withdraw" button.
7. Confirm your withdraw.
If you do not have access to a computer you can also cancel by calling CPDT at (904) 620-1707.
Do you provide certificates of completion?
Yes. You may view your entire training history:
- Login to the myWings portal with your N# and password.
- Click on the Home tab.
- From the Quick Links menu (located on the right-hand side of the Home tab), click CPDT Class Register (Training).
- Select "MY Classes" from the left-hand column.
To print an official certificate of completion, follow the certificate of completion instructions.
