I. OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE
Establishing policies and procedures for compensating faculty who accept teaching responsibilites above their contractual assignments.
II. STATEMENT OF POLICY
Definition: (When appropriate)
Faculty members who are satisfactorily performing assigned duties may be offered one overlad assignment per semester (no more than .25 FTE), with the exception noted below. Compensation for this instructional effort will be paid on the basis of $2,000 per credit hour, or $6,000 for a 3-credit hour course. Compensation for laboratory effort will not normally exceed $1,000.00 per credit hour. Exceptions to these rates of pay must be approved by the Office of Academic Affairs.
Under extraordinary circumstances, the Provost, with the concurrence of the Chair and Dean, may approve the request of a faculty member to engage in employment beyond 1.25 FTE per semester. A statement regarding the duties to be performed by the faculty member must be included with the request as well as justification for the request.
III. STATEMENT OF PROCEDURES (Optional)
The University will make payment through an OPS supplemental compensation appointment. This means the faculty member would receive the entire payment, minus applicable taxes, during the semester when the overload was assigned.
