Call to Order
Chair Taylor welcomed trustees and guests to the retreat. He stated that the purpose of the retreat was to discuss how the Board might support the President in making UNF an even more exceptional institution. He spoke about the recent recession and how the university had bounced back.
Chair Taylor reviewed the agenda and moved on to the team-building exercise. He introduced Dr. Terry Mactaggart as the moderator of this exercise.
Dr. MacTaggart led trustees in a discussion on why and how they might serve the university and the President. They spoke about their talents, life’s work and experiences and how each trustee might serve.
After this discussion, President Delaney spoke about the state of the university. He discussed the annual report and concerns for the upcoming year.
Trustees were joined by the university’s vice presidents in a discussion on restructuring future Board meetings. This conversation included the Board’s fiduciary and strategic planning roles and how each of these might help the President. Other discussions included Board governance and trustee engagement.
The university’s deans joined the retreat and a dialogue was then held with a panel, including local employers. Chair Taylor and President Delaney welcomed these guests and invited them to have a conversation on how to make UNF graduates more attractive to employers and how UNF might become an even stronger influence on the community.
After this discussion, trustees, vice presidents and college deans exchanged ideas on how to implement the suggestions made by the panel.
The final exchange was moderated by Dr. MacTaggart and included ideas on what the university would look like in five to ten years and what the university should work on over the next year.
Chair Taylor offered much appreciation to all of those who contributed to the retreat and adjourned the meeting.
