Bruce Taylor, of Jacksonville, is the chief executive officer and chairman of Taylor Engineering, Inc. Dr. Taylor is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Florida and Mississippi. He founded Taylor Engineering in 1983 and guided the company to prominence as one of the leading coastal and water resource engineering organizations in the United States. He has served in various capacities on professional boards, councils, and committees at the state and national level including president of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers, past chair UNF’s Engineering Advisory Council, member Florida Virtual Campus Board of Directors, member academic visiting committees for the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Florida, member Peer Review Committee for the Army Corps of Engineers Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory, and member of the Army’s Coastal Engineering Research Board. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Taylor is the recipient of a number of honors and recognitions including Honorary Alumnus of the University of North Florida, Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Florida, and Distinguished Alumnus of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Professionally, he is the recipient of the Florida Engineering Society’s three highest awards for Outstanding Technical Achievement, Florida Engineer of the Year, and Outstanding Service to the Profession of Engineering. In 1999 he received the nation's highest award given to a professional engineer, the National Society of Professional Engineer's Award. Dr. Taylor served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Service, receiving his B.S. (with distinction) from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1964. He subsequently earned his M.S. in Oceanographic Engineering from the University of Miami in 1971, and his Ph.D. in Civil and Coastal Engineering from the University of Florida in 1974. Dr. Taylor was originally appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by Governor Bush in 2003 and reappointed for a second and third term ending January 6, 2015. Dr. Taylor was elected chair of the UNF Board of Trustees in 2006 and re-elected for a second and third term ending January 2014.
Hugh Greene, of Jacksonville, is the president and chief executive officer of Baptist Health. Joining Baptist Health in 1989, Mr. Greene has served in several administrative positions prior to becoming CEO in 2000. In that time, Baptist Health has expanded from its downtown Baptist Medical Center to five hospitals, including Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Mr. Greene has been active on the UNF campus as well as in the Jacksonville community. He served for a number of years on the Brooks College of Health Dean’s Council and as vice chair from 2004-2006. He serves as chair of the Access Work Group for the Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy Board in the Brooks College of Health. Mr. Greene was named an honorary alumnus of UNF in 2010. He has been active in the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and will serve as chair for 2011. He has served both as campaign chair and chair of the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Northeast Florida. Mr. Greene is a recipient of the Excellence in Healthcare Award for establishing a healthcare clinic for the homeless. In 2007, he was inducted into the First Coast Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Greene earned a B.A. from Wake Forest University, M.H.A. from Medical College of Virginia, and a M.Div.y from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Florida Board of Governors in 2007 and reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2015. Mr. Greene was elected as vice chair of the UNF Board of Trustees 2010 and re-elected for a second term ending January 2014.
Carlo Fassi, of Weston Florida, is the Student Government President, elected for the 2012-2013 academic year, and again for the 2013-2014 academic year. Carlo became a UNF student in the summer of 2009 after graduating from Miami Beach Senior High School where he participated in the Italian Honors Society, the Miami Beach High Scholars Academy and the Beach High Tennis team. In high school, Carlo spent his junior year abroad studying in Turin, Italy where he lived with his aunt and uncle. Prior to joining the UNF community, he interned at the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce and worked for his parents as a Sales Associate for FassiGroup of Miami. Since becoming an Osprey, Carlo has been an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, the UNF Pre-Law Society and Student Government where he served as the Budget and Allocations Committee chairman and Senate President. Carlo is scheduled to graduate in the fall of 2014 to then continue his education, potentially abroad once again. Carlo began his term as a UNF trustee in April 2012, and will continue his service until the conclusion of his second presidential term in April 2014.
Fred Franklin, of Jacksonville, is the Managing Director of Rogers Towers and is a member of the firm's Litigation Department. His practice is concentrated in the areas of complex commercial litigation, land use litigation and negligence litigation, including personal injury and wrongful death. His experience includes the representation of banks and federal banking agencies involving the workout and foreclosure of commercial and real estate loans. Mr. Franklin also has extensive experience litigating title insurance claims and other real estate matters. From 1995 through 1997, Mr. Franklin served as General Counsel for the City of Jacksonville and its independent agencies, including the Jacksonville Port Authority, the Jacksonville Electric Authority, the Duval County School Board and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. As general counsel, he was the chief legal officer for Jacksonville’s consolidated government. Mr. Franklin is a member of The Florida Bar, American Bar Association, Jacksonville Bar Association and the National Bar Association. He received the AV Preeminent Rating, Martindale-Hubbell; Outstanding Alumni Award, Jacksonville University, 2004; Florida Trend Magazine, “Legal Elite” (Commercial Litigation), 2010; and the Designee, Florida Super Lawyers (Business Litigation), 2011. Mr. Franklin's professional and community involvement include the Judicial Nominating Commission, Florida First District Court of Appeal; the Grievance Committee, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida; the Jacksonville Civic Council; the Mayor's Film and Television Advisory Board; the Chairman-Elect, Gator Bowl Association, 2011; the Board of Directors, Atlantic Coast Bank; the Board of Directors, St. Vincent’s Hospital; and the Judicial Campaign Practices Commission, Jacksonville Bar Association. He was previously involved with the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, 4th Judicial Circuit, 1984-1986; the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society, 1998-2000; a Charter Member, Chester Bedell Inn of Court, 1985; the Board of Directors, Jacksonville Port Authority, 1999-2001; the Commissioner, Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, 2004-2005; the General Counsel, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, 2002; the Board of Directors, Leadership Jacksonville, 2001-2003; and the General Counsel, Gator Bowl Association, 1998-2010. Mr. Franklin was appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Florida Board of Governors in 2011 and reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2018.
Joy Korman, of Jacksonville, is the co-founder of Living Leadership, a consulting and training partnership that specializes in leadership, team building and organizational processes for the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Ms. Korman has worked as a teacher, counselor, administrator and community leader for over 30 years. She has held many leadership positions including the chairperson of the board of the Jacksonville Public Libraries, president of Congregation Ahavath Chesed, and has served on the boards of Leadership Jacksonville, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, and Community Connections. She has also worked on major capital campaigns and in an advisory capacity for Hope Haven Children’s Clinic, the Community Literacy Initiative, and the Super Bowl Host Committee. Ms. Korman has been a French and Spanish teacher, supervisor of student teachers, school counselor and administrator. While at The Bolles School, she created several initiatives related to leadership training, mentoring and community service for high school students. She is a trained facilitator in conflict resolution. She has been a consultant and trainer for Leadership Jacksonville’s School Leadership Connection program. Ms. Korman received her B.A. degree in French and Spanish from Simmons College and her M.Ed. from Southern Connecticut State University. She is a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville, Class of 1995. Joy’s honors include the 1995 Community Connections Tribute Award – Women in Leadership, the 1996 Israel Unity Award, the 2004 NCCJ Humanitarian Award, the 2005 National Council of Jewish Women “Women In Power” Award and the Florida Library Association Outstanding Citizen’s Award in 2007. She was appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Governor in 2008, for a term ending January 6, 2013. Joy was reappointed by the Governor for a second term ending January 6, 2018.
Rad Lovett, of Jacksonville, is co-founder of Lovett Miller & Co. He has served as founder, Chairman and CEO of two highly successful growth companies: TowerCom Development, LP, a developer of wireless communications infrastructure; and TowerCom, Limited, an owner and developer of broadcast communication towers. Mr. Lovett also has made venture capital investments in private companies which have generated attractive realized returns for investors. He currently monitors investments in and serves as an advisor to Cypress Care, Inc.; EverBank Financial Corp; Innosource, Inc.; and Kinetic Books Company. Prior to co-founding Lovett Miller & Co., Mr. Lovett served as the president of Southcoast Capital Corporation, a family holding company that invests in private equities, public equities, and real estate. Prior to Southcoast Capital, Mr. Lovett worked for the Lincoln Property Company and in the Corporate Finance Department of Merrill Lynch in New York City. Mr. Lovett earned an A.B. degree from Harvard College. He was appointed by the Governor in 2011 and reappointed for a second term ending January 6, 2016.
Oscar Munoz, of Jacksonville, has been the executive vice president and chief operating officer of CSX since January 2012. He manages all aspects of the company's operations across its 21,000-mile network, including transportation, service design, customer service, engineering, mechanical and technology. Prior to his current role, Mr. Munoz served as CSX's executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2003 to 2012. Before joining CSX in 2003, Mr. Munoz served as chief financial officer and vice president of AT&T Consumer Services. He also has held key executive positions with other consumer products companies including the Coca-Cola Company and Pepsico Corporation. Mr. Munoz is a member of the board of directors and chair of the Audit Committee for Continental Airlines and a member of the board of directors for Outward Bound USA. He has twice been recognized – in 2001 and 2006 – as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine. Mr. Munoz is actively engaged in the United Way of Northeast Florida. He earned a B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1982, and a M.B.A. at Pepperdine University. Mr. Munoz was appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Board of Governors in 2010 for a term ending January 6, 2015.
Joannie Newton, of Jacksonville, is chairman emeritus of Regency Centers Corporation (formerly Regency Realty Corporation), a publicly traded real estate investment trust that focuses on grocery-anchored neighborhood retail centers throughout the United States. Regency’s predecessor, The Regency Group, Inc., was founded in 1963 by Ms. Newton and her late husband, Mr. Martin Stein. Ms. Newton has been honored as Jacksonville’s Business Woman of the year and has served as chairman of the board of the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. She retired from the board of the Barnett Bank of Jacksonville, N.A. after 11 years of service. Ms. Newton was appointed by former President George H.W. Bush to the National Advisory Council for Historic Preservation and served four of her six-year term as vice chairman. She retired from the board of the Cummer Gallery of Art but remains on the Restoration and Building and Grounds committees. She has also served as a member of the Florida Board of Governors, the Executive Board of Historic Book Sanctuary and the Jacksonville Public Library Board of Library Trustees. She currently serves on the Finance Committee of the Community Foundation. Ms. Newton was originally appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Governor in 2002. She was reappointed to the UNF Board of Trustees by the Florida Board of Governors in 2011 and reappointed for a second term ending January 6, 2016.
Lynn Pappas,of Jacksonville, is a shareholder with Gunster, Yoakley & Steward, P.A. She brings experience handling complex transactions for many of the Jacksonville region's largest community developers, multifamily and condominium developers, community associations, shopping center developers, mitigation banks, and many other types of market participants. Her land use work includes development of regional impact approvals, comprehensive plan amendments, zoning as well as state and federal environmental permitting. Ms. Pappas is a member of the UF-Shands Jacksonville board of directors; Jacksonville Civic Council, Political Leadership Institute; SunTrust Bank North Florida, NA, board of directors; Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce, board of trustees; and the Board of Governors. She is also a member of the Florida Bar Association, Real Property Section, Probate & Trust Law Section, and Environmental & Land Use Law Section; Jacksonville Bar Association, Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section; American Bar Association; and the Urban Land Institute North Florida Advisory Board. Ms. Pappas brings extensive experience in growth management and comprehensive planning. She was appointed by the Governor in 2011 and reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2015.
Myron Pincomb, of Ponte Vedra, is the founder and CEO of The Pincomb Group. His background includes 17 years of starting, building and running highly successful companies in the fields of industrial chemistry, technology and education. Each of his companies has revolutionized and left a lasting impact on the future of its respective industry. Mr. Pincomb’s passion for education has significantly impacted teaching and learning in the United States. In 1999, he founded Educational Tools, Inc., serving as president and CEO. During Mr. Pincomb’s oversight, Educational Tools, Inc. was twice recognized as an Inc. 500 Company and was one of the fastest growing companies in Florida. In October 2010, Educational Tools, Inc. was purchased by Triumph Learning. In addition to building innovative Educational Tools, Mr. Pincomb’s passion for education and technology goes well beyond the office. In 2005, he founded Literacy 20/20, a non-profit focused on developing and improving the literacy rates of children age 3-10 in at-risk communities across the country. In August 2011, Mr. Pincomb launched The Pincomb Group, a consulting company in Ponte Vedra Florida. The Pincomb Group focuses on helping companies grow and achieve their desired exit point. The Pincomb Group provides proficiency in the fields of accounting, tax planning, corporate law, investment management, international business development, sales management, technology development, marketing and operational management. Mr. Pincomb is a graduate of the University of North Florida and holds degrees in biology and chemistry. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Governor in 2011 and reappointed for a second term ending January 6, 2016.
Gordon Rakita, of Jacksonville, is a bioarchaeologist and associate professor of anthropology in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. Currently he serves as president of the UNF Faculty Association. He is the past program coordinator for Anthropology at UNF; former principal investigator and analytical director for SWCA Environmental Consultants of Flagstaff, Arizona and holds an adjunct faculty appointment with the Department of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico. He is associate editor for the Society for American Archaeology Press. He earned his B.A. in anthropology from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of New Mexico. He is co-director of the 76 Draw Archaeological Project and director of UNF’s Community Cemetery Project. He has been awarded both the Outstanding Faculty Service Award (for 2011-2012) and the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award (2005-2006) at UNF. He and his wife Cally have two children. Dr. Rakita assumed his position on the UNF Board of Trustees in 2012 and serves until September 2014.
Lanny Russell, of Jacksonville, has practiced law since 1980. He is a shareholder and board member with Smith Hulsey & Busey. Lanny resolves complex commercial disputes. He has expertise in the hospitality industry, retail petroleum sales, real estate development, construction, accounting, banking and fiduciary relationships. He is recognized in Best Lawyers in America (in commercial litigation, construction litigation and banking and finance litigation), Florida Trend’s Legal Elite and Florida Super Lawyers. Lanny received his B.A., cum laude, from the University of South Florida in 1976 and his J.D., with honors from the University of Florida in 1980, where he was the University of Florida Law Review’s senior executive editor. He has authored two law review articles and several Florida Bar publications. Lanny’s professional and civic activities include service on Florida Middle District Court’s and Fourth Judicial Circuit Court’s Grievance Committees, Florida Judicial Qualification Commission (Special Counsel), Jacksonville Public Library Board of Trustees (member and former chair), Jacksonville Bar Association (member and 2001 Lawyer of the Year), Chester Bedell Inn of Court (former Chancellor and Master of the Bench), Middle District of Florida, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court Bar (member). Lanny has also served on the boards of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc. and The Hubbard House Foundation, Inc. and was a mayoral appointee to the Jacksonville Parks Task Force, The Preservation Commission, The Jacksonville Journey, and three general counsel nominating committees. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Governor in 2011 and reappointed for a second term ending January 6, 2016.
Sharon Wamble-King, of Jacksonville, is senior vice president, enterprise communication for Florida Blue. In this role, Ms. Wamble-King is responsible for strategic communications including media relations and reputation leadership, plus employee, human resource and executive communications. Prior to joining Florida Blue in 2006, Ms. Wamble-King served as vice president of communication strategy and internal communication for Aetna. Throughout her career, Ms. Wamble-King has held leadership positions for several large, complex and global organizations. She served as principal for Strategix Management Consulting in Castro Valley, California; business consultant for Arthur Andersen, LLP, in San Francisco; change communication consultant for William M. Mercer in San Francisco; and executive staff and director for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California. Ms. Wamble-King also held positions at Blue Cross of California. During her career, Ms. Wamble-King has been active in community and professional organizations. She is a trustee at Florida Memorial University in Miami and she also serves on the boards of WJCT Public Broadcasting, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, the Tampa Museum of Art and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida in Orlando. Ms. Wamble-King is an alumna of Leadership Florida and Leadership Jacksonville. She is a member of the Communication Leadership Exchange, Public Relations Society of America, Society for Human Resource Management and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She also has served as an international executive board member for IABC and trustee of the IABC Research Foundation. Ms. Wamble-King holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts and Sociology from the University of the Pacific and a Master of Science in Mass Communication from California State University. She was appointed by the Florida Board of Governors in 2011 and reappointed for a second term ending January 6, 2016.
