Description:

About ten species of Aureolaria are native to eastern North America. Information is not consistent from one reference to another but it appears that this species is native from Ontario to northern Mexico, as far west as Texas. It is reported that these plants are partially parasitic on oak roots, and possibly blueberry relatives (family Ericaceae.) This “bushy” little herb flowers heavily with bright yellow flowers. Flowers are about a half inch across and are produced in winter and spring.

This attractive wildflower is not available in local nurseries. It should be encouraged where it grows naturally but may be difficult to cultivate.
