Ospreys Email Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ospreys Email?

The University of North Florida has partnered with Microsoft to provide students with an "E-mail for Life" address (N number@ospreys.unf.edu), 10 GB storage for e-mail, 25 GB storage for files, and online Microsoft Office Web Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and One Note)

Why did we move to Ospreys E-mail instead of keeping the old system?

The old system is just that; old. Moving to a new system will provide students with many  features not possible in the old system – such as having a large mailbox storage limit, large file storage space that is easy to access, and the ability to create Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and One Note files without having to buy the software.  Students will get to keep their UNF e-mail address for life.  Additionally, we saved the University $150,000 in hardware costs plus licensing costs for servers, anti-spam, and anti-virus solutions.

Do faculty and staff use Ospreys Email?
No, faculty and staff use an enterprise solution for email called Exchange that is owned and managed by the University.

What is my new e-mail login ID?
Your ID will be your UNF ID (N Number) followed by @ospreys.unf.edu

Example: n01234567@ospreys.unf.edu

What is my password?
There is a separate password associated with your Ospreys E-mail account, however, if you access it though myWings, you do not need to enter it. If you access Ospreys E-mail using a smartphone or at http://outlook.com, you will need to choose/know your Ospreys E-mail password.  The password you choose for Ospreys E-mail should be different than your myWings password. If you need to select a password for your Ospreys E-mail account, go to http://outlook.com and click on "Can't Access Your Account".

What if I already forward my UNF email to another account (such as Gmail or Hotmail)?
We will automatically populate your new Ospreys E-mail account with your forwarding address, if you have one. Your email will continue to forward without you having to do anything. If you want to take advantage of the new features Ospreys E-mail provides and turn off forwarding, follow the easy directions at this page.

How do I find my forwarding address in my Ospreys E-mail account?
Your forwarding address, if you have one, will be listed in “Connected Accounts”. This can be found by clicking on “Options”.

Can I keep my Ospreys E-mail address when I leave UNF?
Yes, you will be able to keep your e-mail address (in the format of N-number@ospreys.unf.edu) for life. If you ever need to reset the password after you leave UNF, you can do so using myWings.

What is the SkyDrive and how do I access it?

SkyDrive is a place to store files online.  Login to your Ospreys E-mail account and look at the top banner area for “SkyDrive”.

Will the SkyDrive replace the H:Drive (Web Drive)?

Since the SkyDrive is much easier to use and students have a lot more space, it is the preferred location for file storage. The H: Drive will be decommissioned at some point in the future.

What if I am both a student and an employee at UNF?
If you have dual roles, you will have two mailboxes. One is n01234567@ospreys.unf.edu (student mailbox) and the other is n01234567@unf.edu (employee mailbox). When your Ospreys E-mail account is activated, it will be set to automatically forward to your employee mailbox (N#@unf.edu). You can change this if you want (In your Ospreys E-mail account, go to "Options" in the top right corner, select "See all Options", click on "Account", and select "Forward your e-mail".  Make your change under "Forwarding".)  Read more.

If a student did not have a friendly email alias before the switch to Ospreys Email, they will not have a friendly email alias.
