The university uses Nortel telephones. Services include digital telephones, conference calling, cell phone service, courtesy phones, emergency phones (Code Blue), long distance calling, and the directory found on the phone.

Who do I contact if I need my phone or phone line moved?" 

You will need to submit an ITSR - Information Technology Services Request.

 

I'm having trouble with my phone line - who do I contact? 

The ITS Help Desk needs to be contacted. You may submit a trouble ticket at help.unf.ed or contact them by phone Their phone number (if you can find another working phone) is 620-HELP (4357) or e-mail them at helpdesk@unf.edu            

 

Where may I find a campus phone directory?

There is a campus directory at http://www.unf.edu/phonedir. This site provides both a public ( is available to anyone on the internet and only list department numbers for individuals)  and internal directory, which lists an employee’s direct extension.

 

Who do I contact to update the name on my phone or in the phone directory? 

If you need to change your name or location you will need to submit an ITSR - Information Technology Services Request which can be done at help.unf.edu or contact the help desk by phone (904) 620-4357 or e-mail helpdesk@unf.edu  If there is a problem with your title or department listing you will need to contact HR as this information is updated depending on the information they have on file.

 How do I make an emergency call? 

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 911.

 

The 911 call will be routed to University Police Department (UPD). UPD will see, on their dispatch telephones, the building and room number from which the call is being made.

 

How do I make a local call?

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + the local 7-digit number.

 

How do I make a long distance call?

Your telephone must be classified as capable of making long-distance calls.

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 8 + 1 + the 10-digit number.

 

How do I make an international call? 

Your telephone must be classified as capable of making International calls.

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 011 + the country code, city code, and number.

 

Can I call toll-free numbers? 

Yes. Listen for dial tone.
Dial 9 + 1 + (800 or 877 or 866) + 7-digit number.

 

Can I make calling card calls? 

Yes. Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 1 + 800 + 7-digit number.

Enter your access code.

 

 Can I make operator assisted calls? 

Yes. Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 00.

Operator-assisted calls will incur a charge.

 

 Can I make 411 and (area code) + 555-1212 information request calls?

Yes. Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 411 or 9 + (area code) + 5551212.

Information request calls will incur a charge.

 

How do I access voice mail from my phone? 

Listen for dial tone.

Press “messages” key.

Enter 4-digit phone number, press “#” key.

Enter password, press “#” key.

 

How do I access voice mail from any other phone on campus? 

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 3900.

Enter 4-digit phone number, press “#” key.

Enter password, press “#” key.

 

How do I access phone mail from any off-campus local phone? 

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 620-3900. Preface with area code if long-distance.

Enter 4-digit phone number, press “#” key.

Enter password, press “#” key.

 

How do I listen to my messages? 

Enter voice mail system as explained above.

Press 2 (or press “play” LCD screen button) to listen to messages.

Press 4 to skip to prior message.

Press 6 to skip to next message.

Press 76 to delete message.

How do I change my greeting? 

Enter voice mail system as explained above.

Press 821 to record greeting for off-campus calls.

Press 822 to record greeting for on-campus calls.

Press 823 to record temporary greeting.

Press 829 to record personal verification.

Press 76 to delete a greeting.

 How do I change my password? 

Enter voice mail system as explained above.

Press 84.

Enter current password, press “#”.

Enter new password, press “#”.

Re-enter new password, press “#”.

How do I send a caller to someone’s voice mail box? 

Dial 3901.

Enter the phone number of person for whom message is to be recorded, press “#”.

Record message, hang up.

How do I delete voicemail?

  • Enter the Call Pilot voice mail system by dialing 620-3900 (or if on campus dial extension 3900 or press "message" button from your office phone).
  • Login with your extension and password. If you do not know your password, submit an ITSR or contact the ITS Help Desk.
  • To listen to your messages - Press 2 on your phone's keypad (or press the "play" button on your office phone).
  • To skip a message - Press 6 on your phone's keypad (or press the "Last" button on your office phone).
  • To go back to the previous message - Press 4 (or press "Last button on your office phone).
  • At any time you are listening to a voicemail you can delete it by pressing 76.
  • A message that says "End of Mailbox" indicates you have navigated through your entire voice mailbox.
  • When you are finished, just hang up (or press the "Goodbye" button on your office phone).

How do I set a Temporary Voice Mail Greeting?

When you are out of the office, a temporary voice mail greeting is a helpful tool to inform callers of when you expect to be back in the office. This option enables you to set an expiration date and avoid re-recording your internal and external greetings after you return.

 

To create a temporary voice mail greeting, login to your voice mail system using your extension number and password. Then...

  1. Press 8 2
  2. Press 3 to select temporary greeting
  3. Next press 5 and record your greeting (tell callers when you expect to be back in the office)
  4. Press # to end your recording
  5. You can press 2 to review your greeting and 7 6 if you wish to delete it
  6. When you are finished, press 9 to set an expiry date and time - you will be prompted for the month, date and time. Remember to include the # after each entry. If you do not select an expiry date and time, the temporary greeting will stay in effect until you delete it.
