The
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
announced the women’s 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field
team and the University of North Florida’s Elise Trexler was one of the
recipients to earn the accolade.
“It’s
great to see Elise receive acknowledgement that she was not only one of
the top athletes in UNF track & field history but also an
outstanding student,” head coach Mark VanAlstyne commented. “Elise
exemplifies everything we expect Osprey athletes to be. What a perfect
way to cap off a senior year in which she set a UNF record, won two
A-Sun titles and qualified for the NCAA Championships!”
Trexler,
a high jumper, ranked as high as 22nd in the East Region with a height
of 1.78m, topping the Atlantic Sun Conference and garnering A-Sun First
Team All-Conference honors. Trexler jumped her personal best height at
the FSU Seminole Invite in April.
A record total of 551 student-athletes
representing 150 institutions compose the group. Nebraska led all
schools for the second-straight year with 18 honorees while BYU was
next in the order with 15 on the list. The Big Ten notched the
conference lead with 65 All-Academic nods while the Big 12 was edged
out with 64.
Twenty-eight All-Academic honorees were reported to have cumulative GPAs of 4.0 and above.
To
qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the
student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of
3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or
provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I
Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their
respective event. -UNF-
