Amnesty International/Student Government Hosts Annual Peace Awareness Day at UNF
Contact: Joanna Norris, Assistant Director
Department of Media Relations and Events
The fourth annual Peace Awareness Day, sponsored by Amnesty International at the University of North Florida and the UNF Student Government, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at UNF in the Andrew Robinson Jr. Student Life Center, building 14, room 1700.
The community is invited to participate in this free celebration of peace development. Enjoy food and listen to international peace performers Jasmine Peterson and Bryce Erdman. Hear poetry by community poets John Hammond and Dr. Nile Stanley, plus watch true peace stories being dramatized on the stage. This peace awareness event will also feature displays, inspirations, a “Visions of Peace” mural and the presentation of the annual Peacebuilding Award.
“This Peace Awareness Day event at UNF is a significant indicator of the many current efforts that are being made and opportunities for building peace now,” said Dr. Candice Carter, a UNF education professor, peace researcher and Amnesty International sponsor. “I think it’s important for individuals to learn about how peace is working locally and globally to help us build the better world we want.”
