The University of North Florida will graduate almost 800 students Friday, Aug. 1, during Summer Commencement ceremonies. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the UNF Arena, and Dr. Pam Chally, dean of the College of Health, will give the commencement address.
Among the 781 candidates for graduation, 575 will receive bachelor’s degrees, and 206 will receive master’s degrees.
The Senior Service Award recipient and naval officers set to be commissioned also will be recognized during the ceremony.
The Senior Service Award is presented by the UNF Alumni Association for service to the University and the community through volunteerism. This summer’s recipient is Mehreen Hussain.
Hussain will graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in communications. While at UNF, she was a work-study student assistant for the UNF Women’s Center and worked as an account manager intern for St. John&Partners.
She is a founding member of the Women’s Center Peer Theatre program, which aims to educate students about violence against women on college campuses. She also helped to create a documentary to educate high school students about date rape, sexual assault and domestic violence.
Hussain also has been active in the International Student Association, Student Government, Muslim Student Association, African American Student Union, Friends of the Women’s Center and Osprey Advertising Club. She helped to found the Indian Cultural Association, for which she organized a dance group to perform at cultural events and to teach Indian dances to children.
