In accordance with the May 2013 COSMA Accreditation Process Manual, this summation of the University of North Florida’s accreditation standing describes official actions taken by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) Board of Commissioners with regard to an academic unit/sport management program seeking accreditation for its sport management programs by COSMA.
The COSMA Accredited Sport Management program is reflective of the fast-paced and growing sports industry across the country. The program of study provides an academic foundation in sports management for application in a variety of sports settings. Of further significance is that students receive valuable employment training though practicum and internship experiences in chosen settings including: college recreation or athletic programs, community recreation agencies, sport organizations or business, sport facilities, and professional sports teams.
Those entering the Sport Management program must meet University admissions requirements as well as the following admission requirements of a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.
All program of study course work, including pre-requisites, must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
Students are allowed to petition to take one course with their internship pending approval. As of Summer 2014, students will not be allowed to take a course concurrently with their internship that has previously been attempted unsuccessfully (i.e., a Withdrawal, a grade of D or F).
