AAFSA In The Spotlight Member
1. What do you do at UNF?
am the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor for Central Receiving in the
Purchasing Department under Administration and Finance at UNF. I have been with the university full time
since 1997 and was OPS for three years prior to that time. Right now I supervise two full time and one
student employee in Central Receiving.
We process about 80% of the items ordered at UNF which come through
Central Receiving as well as handle the packages shipped out from the various
departments on campus.
2. Tell us something that would surprise people to know about you?
used to sing backup in an alternative rock band for about three years. It has been about two years since the band
parted ways, but I had a great time doing it.
3. What are some of your accomplishments or community involvement?
I was part of the very first LeadershipUNF class at the university in 2005. This was a leadership development program in
which participants learned all aspects of the university and met with the Board
of Trustees, the UNF Foundation Board, and lawmakers in Tallahassee. I was asked to speak at President Delaney’s
inauguration since I was the president of USPA at the time. I served as USPA president for eight years. Outside of UNF I was a counselor at the YMCA
for five years working with 5 -8 year old children. It was very rewarding and at times you had to
be a mentor to some of the children too. Sometimes the YMCA was the happiest or
calmest place for children.
4. What person had the greatest impact on your life?
person that had the greatest impact on my life was my father. He was a contractor who owned his own
business. He was a mentor as was well as
my best friend. His door was always open
for me to talk to him about anything at all.
He taught me that it is very important to set goals and as you achieve those,
set higher goals for yourself.
5. What was your favorite thing about working at UNF?
My favorite thing about working at UNF is the connections
I’ve made to the people and students here.
Customer service is very important to me and I can build relationships
with those that I help, especially those new to campus. I enjoy being a part of the UNF family.
6. What are you most passionate about?
am most passionate about helping the staff, faculty, and students on the UNF
campus as well as those in the Jacksonville community. Part of my job is helping individuals with
problems that may arise as well as their shipping needs. People know that they can call me or leave a
message and I will return the call and see what I can do to help. What I want is for people to “pay it forward”
as it were. Help someone else with
something if you can.
do you feel AAFSA benefited you and why did you join AAFSA?
I joined AAFSA in order to get to know more of the African American community
here on campus and build those relationships.
Members get to know others across campus, what they do, and what some of
the challenges and rewards are in other departments. It is also a networking opportunity that can
benefit your work life on campus and your community life outside of UNF.
