Critical Steps for Timely Disbursement

Step 1: Apply Early

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in the financial aid process. Use it to apply for federal student financial aid, such as the Pell Grant, student loans, and Federal Work Study. UNF's FAFSA school code is 009841. Complete the FAFSA online and remember that an FSA ID is necessary to sign this application

Students from the state of Florida also need to complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) their senior year before graduating from high school. State of Florida Grant and Scholarship programs such as Florida Bright Futures and Florida Student Assistance Grant require the FFAA. UNF's post-secondary institution (PSI) code is 161.

Step 2: Review your Award(s)

A few weeks after you file your FAFSA, log in to your myWings account to review and accept or decline your financial aid awards. Most grants and scholarships will be accepted for you automatically. You must choose to accept or decline student loan and work study awards. NOTE: only accepted financial aid can be used to defer tuition costs.

Step 3: Complete and Submit All Requirements

Your financial aid will not be disbursed if you have any outstanding financial aid requirements. Submit all requested documents as early as possible to avoid disbursement delays. View your financial aid requirements on the Students tab of myWings. Click here to learn more about financial aid verification requirements.

Step 4: Complete Entrance Counseling

If you accepted or requested a Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS loan, you will receive an e-mail to your secure UNF e-mail account directing you to an online tutorial that serves to educate you on your rights and responsibilities as a loan borrower. Upon completion of this 20 to 30 minute Entrance Counseling, print the confirmation page for your records. Loans cannot disburse until you have completed Entrance Counseling.

Step 5: E-Sign your MPN

If you accepted or requested a Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan or PLUS loan, you will receive an e-mail instructing you to electronically sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN). This serves as your loan agreement contract. Loans cannot disburse until you have completed the appropriate MPN.

Step 6: Direct Deposit

If you have financial aid in excess of your total deferred charges each term, you will receive a financial aid refund. Direct Deposit is the fastest, safest way to receive a financial aid refund. Simply follow the enrollment instructions on the Student Financial Services website. It generally takes 24 hours to process your request. You will receive an e-mail notification once your refund is directly deposited into your account. Click here for more information on financial aid refunds.
