What Can You Do With A Major In Exceptional Student Education/Deaf Studies?

Deaf Studies gives students an opportunity to acquire an understanding of the deaf community as a part of human diversity. The courses are designed to prepare students to spend their professional or social lives after graduation, in the deaf community or, to make further contributions in a chosen academic discipline.  American Sign Language (ASL) is a language that uses signs made with the hands and other movements, including facial expressions and body posture, to communicate.  This major is designed to give you a basic understanding of the deaf culture, while also giving you practical experience in the field. This program might be for you if:

  • You enjoy helping people learn and understand.
  • You are interested in learning more about education, deaf culture and interpretation skills.
  • You would like to work in a service industry.
