Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate

Earn the TEFL Certificate at the University of North Florida! 

The English Language Program at UNF offers a TEFL certificate which will be welcomed around the world. You will attend a 76-hour certificate program with an opportunity of adding 44 additional practicum hours if your employer requires 120 hours total. 

 

The program consists of formal instruction, practicum, and teaching hours.

 

Formal instruction: 

 

  • Language acquisition theory 
  • Methods for teaching language skills 
  • Foreign language classroom management 
  • Lesson plan and EFL materials development 
  • Understanding of different components in the English language and teaching them effectively  

 

Practicum and teaching hours: 

 

  • Observation of ESL classes in various levels and subject skills 
  • Planning lessons 
  • Teaching in pairs and individually to ESL students  

 

Student qualifications: To participate in the program, the student must have an Associate’s degree or higher. We ask that international students demonstrate a high level of English Language proficiency and/or a score of 60 or higher on iB-TOEFL, 500 on PB TOEFL, or 6 on IELTS.
