Many of the challenges of the 21st century will be environmental as humankind tests the carrying capacity of our planet. These environmental issues and problems are by their very nature multidisciplinary, so UNF has adopted a cooperative and integrated approach to understanding our environment and managing resources wisely. The Environmental Center will respond to the pressing need for research relevant to environmental issues, help design thoughtful planning processes, encourage responsible stewardship, and help prepare the next generation of environmentally literate society leaders.
The mission of the Environmental Center is to establish, develop, and
support cross-disciplinary education and research related to the
environment. The Center fosters programs for students, faculty, and
staff to pursue environmental activities through academics, research,
and extracurricular activities. Also, the Center conducts and supports
campus infrastructural projects involving sustainability and the
campus’s natural environment. The Center develops connections and
collaborations among university entities and between the university and

The St. Johns River Transformational Learning Opportunity is open to all undergraduate students and is a once in a lifetime opportunity, Students who participate will spend spring break on the St. Johns River. Sunrise Yoga and Beach Cleanup
As part of Volunteer Services’ Lend-A-Week, the Environmental Center is hosting a sunrise yoga session and beach cleanup Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 6:45 a.m. Please bring a yoga mat or towel, and a reusable water bottle. Carpooling available. Click here for more information.
Seed Grant Applications
for UNF Faculty
Applications for Environmental Center Seed Grants for up to $6,000 are available to faculty or teams of UNF personnel that include at least one tenure track faculty member. Seed Grants are intended to stimulate the creation of multidisciplinary research projects related to the environment. Applications will be accepted until noon Monday, Nov. 3.
