IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please read about the new responsible conduct in research requirements.
Last year the Research Integrity Unit of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announced the adoption of IRBNet. This is an electronic protocol management suite of tools. The RI staff worked with the vendor to create tools specific to our researchers’ needs and we are ready to launch the software on February 6. As of that date, we will no longer accept new IRB applications via email/paper. All new projects must be submitted electronically through IRBNet. By the end of the Spring 2012 term all amendments and extensions will be submitted via IRBNet.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs carefully chose IRBNet not only for the important capabilities that it provides, but also because IRBNet is secure, web-based, and extremely intuitive and easy to use. You may access IRBNet from virtually any computer using a web browser by visiting www.irbnet.org.
In order to support researchers, we offer online and face-to-face learning options (videos, read-me documents, IRBNet forums, and introductory workshops). As of next week, you will find electronic learning tools here and at http://IRBNet.org – please create a profile to access the IRBNet system. Additionally, if you would like to review IRBNet training videos please do so via this link: http://www.irbnetresources.org/tresources/training.html and use the following information to login into the training modules page, username: unf and password: training1. Introductory training opportunities will be announced in the near future.
UNF’s adoption of IRBNet brings our research community a robust set of electronic tools supporting the management, submission, review and oversight of our research protocols. Some of IRBNet’s many features include electronic submissions and reviews, electronic document management, web-based protocol sharing and collaboration, automatic notifications, and important audit capabilities including electronic revision histories, electronic signatures and event tracking. Please feel free to contact our office at 620.2455 for further information.

The Research Integrity (RI) team promotes the responsible conduct of research by ensuring the existence and competence of the University's federally mandated oversight committees (Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects [IRB] and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee [IACUC]) which provide for public safety and ethical scientific procedures in all research that involves human or animal subjects and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) which provides oversight of hazardous materials used in research. These committees assure compliance with all federal and state regulations and university policies that govern both funded and non-funded research with human and animal subjects at UNF. The RI team also works with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure radiation is safely used on campus. In addition to providing administrative support to the IRB and IACUC, RI is available help researchers navigate through the regulatory compliance review process by providing educational outreach and assistance with research protocol development. The RI team in ORSP serves as a liaison between researchers and the regulatory committees by:
Dawn O'Connor MPA
Assistant Director, Research Integrity
Kayla Champaigne MPA, CIP
Coordinator, Research Integrity
